OPPOSITION TO THE CHURCH

2nd COR 2: 11Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

1John 2: 15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Three things that hinder the work of God.

Lust of the eyes.

Lust of the flesh.

Pride of life.

The world,the flesh,and the Devial they are similar to the work of God.

(1) Satan opposes the Church.

1st Peter 5; 8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

He opposes the Church through desire.

A desire of large crowds.

Through lucrative collections.

Through lauded culture.

(2) Satan opposes through deception.

Never make a decision when;

You are discouraged.

You are angry.

When you are on the mountain.

He can deceive you into doing the wrong thing.

(3) Satan opposes the church through dependence on things not of the Lord.

Education

Organization

Financation

(4) Society opposes the church.

John 16: 33These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Because the church condemns their ways.

Because the church communes with another world.

The church commands no distinction between people

James 5: 1Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

2Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

3Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

A .The way of society riches.

James 5: 5Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

B. The way of society revelry

Gal.3: 1O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

2This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

3Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

4Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.

5He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

C .Society loves religion

(5) Flesh self will opposes the church.

Weak Matt. 26: 41Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Waring against the spirit.

1st Peter 2: 11Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

By wrong desires.

Romans 7: 1Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?

2For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

3So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

4Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
