VII. EXPLICATION:

A. Author: Dr. Luke, the Beloved Physician (Col 4:14)

Luke, the beloved doctor, sends his greetings, and so does Demas.

B. Audience: Theophilus (identity is unknown)

C. Purpose: To give a connected and orderly narrative of the life of CHRIST as seen by eyewitnesses.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Only one thing is needed

(One thing came from Greek word: hice meaning a primary numeral, one man (JESUS CHRIST)

For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.

1. Example of the rich young man (Luke 18:22)

a. The rich young man looked to the law and the commandment for his salvation but ignored JESUS.

When Jesus heard his answer, he said, “There is still one thing you haven’t done. Sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

3. The Goal of Eternal life is JESUS CHRIST (John 17:3)

B. Someone has discovered it - Mary (Luke 10:39-40)

- without works as differentiated from Martha

1. Martha is so distracted with the works for JESUS rather than JESUS

- busy with ministry rather than JESUS

- we must be busy with the LORD JESUS CHRIST

Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught.

But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”

C. It will not be taken to the one who discovers (Luke 8:18)

1. We discover JESUS by listening to His Words on a daily basis.

“So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.”

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?

(As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”)

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

IX. CONCLUSION:

The one thing we need is JESUS CHRIST keep busy with Him.
