This sermon explores Jesus as the exclusive path to God, the means to approach Him, and the sole source of our justification and salvation.

Introduction

Greetings, beloved family in Christ. It's a joy to gather with you today, in this sacred space where our hearts align in worship and our spirits are nourished by the Word of God. Today we gather around a passage of scripture, a statement of divine truth that is as profound as it is simple, as comforting as it is challenging.

Our focus today is John 14:6, a verse that resonates with the very heartbeat of the Gospel. In this passage, Jesus proclaims, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." This isn't just a statement of Jesus' purpose; it's an affirmation of His unique role in our salvation.

In the words of renowned theologian J.I. Packer, "There is no peace like the peace of those whose minds are possessed with full assurance that they have known God, and God has known them, and that this relationship guarantees God's favor to them in life, through death and on forever." This peace, this assurance, is found solely in the person of Jesus Christ. He is the way to this peace, the truth that affirms it, and the life that exemplifies it.

Our sermon today will focus on three main points: firstly, recognizing Jesus as the sole path to God; secondly, understanding how we can approach the Father through Jesus; and finally, acknowledging that our justification and salvation are found in Jesus alone.

Let's pray. Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of Your Word, a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. We thank you for Jesus, the way, the truth, and the life. As we delve into Your Word today, we ask that You open our hearts and minds to understand the depth of this truth. Guide us, Lord, and lead us closer to You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Transition. So, let's begin. Let's open our hearts to the truth of Jesus' words, and let the Holy Spirit guide us in understanding their significance for our lives. With open hearts and receptive spirits, let's allow the truth of John 14:6 to resonate within us, to challenge us, to comfort us, and to lead us closer to the heart of God.

Jesus: The Sole Path

In the Gospel of John, we find Jesus speaking to His disciples, comforting them, guiding them, and revealing to them the profound truth of His identity. He tells them, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." These words, spoken with divine authority and profound love, reveal to us the singular path to God - Jesus Himself. Let's take a moment to consider the significance of this.

In a world filled with countless philosophies, ideologies, and spiritual practices, Jesus presents Himself as the unique path to God. He doesn't merely show the way, like a signpost pointing to a destination. He doesn't simply teach the way, like a teacher imparting knowledge. He is the way. This is a profound and radical claim, one that sets Christianity apart from every other belief system.

This claim of Jesus is an invitation. It's an invitation to a relationship, a personal and intimate connection with God Himself. Jesus doesn't just provide a set of rules to follow or a list of doctrines to believe. He offers Himself. He invites us to know Him, to love Him, to follow Him. In doing so, we find our way to the Father.

But how does this work? How does knowing Jesus lead us to God? To understand this, we need to consider the nature of sin. Sin, in its essence, is a rejection of God. It's a turning away from Him, a decision to go our own way rather than His. This rejection creates a barrier between us and God, a barrier that we, in our own strength, cannot overcome.

This is where Jesus comes in. Jesus, in His life, death, and resurrection, has done what we could not do for ourselves. He has removed the barrier of sin, reconciling us to God. He has made a way for us to come to the Father. In Jesus, we find forgiveness for our sins, freedom from guilt and shame, and the promise of eternal life.

This is the good news of the Gospel and the hope we have in Jesus. He is the way to God, the only way. Not a way among many, but the way. Not a path among many, but the path. Not a truth among many, but the truth. Not a life among many, but the life.

This truth may be challenging to accept. It may seem exclusive, narrow, even intolerant. But let's remember that this is not a human idea, but a divine revelation. It's not our claim, but Jesus' claim. And it's a claim made not in arrogance, but in love. Jesus doesn't present Himself as the only way to God to exclude people, but to include them. He doesn't do it to condemn, but to save. He doesn't do it to restrict, but to invite.

Transition. So, let's respond to this invitation. Let's embrace Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life. Let's come to the Father through Him. And as we do, let's remember that this is not a solitary journey, but a shared one. We walk this path not alone, but with Jesus. And in Him, we find not just the way to God, but the way to true life, abundant and eternal.
