Explores how to emulate Christ's acceptance of us by fostering unity, love, and humility in our interactions with one another.

Introduction

Beloved, I invite you to join me today as we stand on the precipice of a grand vista, a panorama of truth that stretches far and wide, as we turn our hearts and minds to the book of Romans. Just as the sun peeks over the horizon, casting its first light on the day, we too are about to illuminate our understanding with the divine wisdom of Paul's words.

In the fifteenth chapter of Romans, verses seven and eight, Paul writes,

"Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory. Remember that Christ came as a servant to the Jews to show that God is true to the promises he made to their ancestors."

These verses, my dear friends, are a wellspring of truth, a beacon of hope, and a clarion call to unity. They beckon us to a higher plane of fellowship, to a deeper level of love, and to a broader understanding of acceptance. They challenge us to not just coexist, but to truly accept one another, just as Christ has accepted us.

Let me echo the words of Corrie Ten Boom who once said, "Be united with other Christians. A wall with loose bricks is not good. The bricks must be cemented together." Isn't that a wonderful thought? Our unity is one of the most important things.

So, let's ask ourselves: What does it mean to accept one another as Christ accepted us? How can we live out this divine command in our daily lives? How can we reflect the love of Christ in our interactions with one another?

Today, we will seek answers to these questions under the umbrella of three main points: our common purpose in Christ, our connection through Christ's love, and cultivating humility and acceptance.

Before we proceed, let us bow our heads in prayer.

Dear Heavenly Father, we come to you today with hearts filled with gratitude for your Word. We thank you for the wisdom it imparts, the comfort it provides, and the guidance it offers. As we delve into the depths of Romans today, we ask that you illuminate our understanding, open our hearts, and guide our thoughts. Help us to not just hear your Word, but to truly understand it and apply it in our lives. We ask all this in the precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Let’s get started!

Common Purpose in Christ

In the grand tapestry of humanity, we find ourselves woven together by the common thread of Christ's love. This shared bond, this divine connection, is not just a casual affiliation or a temporary alliance. It is a profound, eternal union that transcends our differences and unites us in a shared purpose. This purpose is not merely about attending church services, participating in religious rituals, or adhering to a set of doctrines. It is about embodying the love of Christ, reflecting His grace, and advancing His kingdom on earth.

The call to embody Christ's love: When we consider the life and ministry of Jesus, we see a perfect demonstration of selfless love. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, comforted the brokenhearted, and ultimately laid down His life for us. This sacrificial love is the cornerstone of our faith and the foundation of our shared purpose. As followers of Christ, we are called to embody this love in our interactions with others. This means showing kindness to those who are unkind to us, forgiving those who have wronged us, and extending grace to those who least deserve it.

The call to reflect Christ's grace: Grace is the unmerited favor of God, the divine assistance given to us not because of anything we have done, but because of His great love for us. It is the grace of God that saves us, sustains us, and empowers us to live a life that honors Him. As recipients of this grace, we are called to reflect it in our lives. This means not judging others based on their past mistakes, not holding grudges, and not seeking revenge. Instead, we are to show mercy, extend forgiveness, and demonstrate love, just as Christ has done for us.

The call to advance Christ's kingdom: The kingdom of God is not a physical territory or a political entity. It is a spiritual realm where God's will is done, where His love reigns supreme, and where His peace prevails. As followers of Christ, we are called to advance this kingdom on earth. This means sharing the good news of Christ's love with others, serving those in need, and standing up for justice and righteousness.

The call to unity: In the body of Christ, there is no room for division, discord, or disunity. We are all members of one body, each with our unique gifts and roles, but all working together for the common purpose of glorifying God. This unity is not about uniformity or conformity. It is about celebrating our diversity, honoring our differences, and working together in harmony.
