A. The LORD is our Peace offering
1. In Him, we have peace (John 16:33, John 14:27)
John 16:33
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
John 14:27
I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
B. As a peace offering, He need to be eaten (accepted) on the third day (John 6:53-58)
John 6:53-58
53 So Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you.54 But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day.55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.56 Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.57 I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me.58 I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will not die as your ancestors did (even though they ate the manna) but will live forever.”
1. Implication: He rose up on the third day. (Matthew 27:63, Mark 8:31, Luke 18:33)
Matthew 27:63
They told him, “Sir, we remember what that deceiver once said while he was still alive: ‘After three days I will rise from the dead.
Mark 8:31
Then Jesus began to tell them that the Son of Man must suffer many terrible things and be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but three days later he would rise from the dead.
Luke 18:33
They will flog him with a whip and kill him, but on the third day he will rise again.
D. Reasons why He need to rise up on the third day:
1. He will not be accepted by the LORD
2. No value as a sacrifice
3. We will receive no credit
4. Contaminated
5. We will have to answer for our sin.
IX. CONCLUSION:
Let us follow in obedience to the LORD and learn from His examples of obedience even up to death (1 Samuel 15:22)
"To obey is better than sacrifice."
1 Samuel 15:22
But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.
