B. Date written: from 931 to 686 B.C.
C. Purpose: To give moral instruction
D. Main Theme: Fear of the LORD
VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. Keep the commandments of the LORD
"He who keeps the commandment [of the Lord] keeps his own life,"
Keeps or "shamar" in Hebrew meaning:
1. to hedge about
2. to guard
3. to protect, attend
4. observe, preserve, regard, watch , beware, take heed
Commandment or "mitsvah" in Hebrew meaning:
1. Divine Law
2. ordinance, precept
Proverbs 3:1 (Amplified Bible)
3:1 MY SON, forget not my law or teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments;
1 John 5:3 (Amplified Bible)
5:3 For the [true] love of God is this: that we do His commands [keep His ordinances and are mindful of His precepts and teaching]. And these orders of His are not irksome (burdensome, oppressive, or grievous).
Revelation 22:14 (Amplified Bible)
22:14 Blessed (happy and to be envied) are those who cleanse their garments, that they may have the authority and right to [approach] the tree of life and to enter through the gates into the city.
John 14:15 (Amplified Bible)
14:15 If you [really] love Me, you will keep (obey) My commands.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 (Amplified Bible)
12:13 All has been heard; the end of the matter is: Fear God [revere and worship Him, knowing that He is] and keep His commandments, for this is the whole of man [the full, original purpose of his creation, the object of God’s providence, the root of character, the foundation of all happiness, the adjustment to all inharmonious circumstances and conditions under the sun] and the whole [duty] for every man.
There's a so-called grace church, which said that all Law has ended, and only grace runs the show, if we say that, we're not crediting the Old testament where Law came from, how can we keep GOD's Laws then? Then how can we preserve or guard our soul? Consider the whole bible as a book, and not collection of books. Keep it, memorize it, bring it with you wherever you are, read, meditate and obey. Take the bible - Old and New Testament as whole GOD's WORDS, and not only the New Testament, or else..
Revelation 22:19 (Amplified Bible)
22:19 And if anyone cancels or takes away from the statements of the book of this prophecy [these predictions relating to Christ’s kingdom and its speedy triumph, together with the consolations and admonitions or warnings pertaining to them], God will cancel and take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the city of holiness (purity and hallowedness), which are described and promised in this book.
B. He who despises the WORD shall die
"but he who despises His ways shall die."
Heart, soul and mind are one in the Bible, they are interchangeable, there's a WORD that says "Guard your heart", now the question is how? The answer is keep GOD's WORDS, keep them in your heart so you can obey them. Bring your own bible in church and don't let it sleep at home. Always bring it with you, the bible is GOD's WORDS - Old and New Testament.
Proverbs 4:23 (Amplified Bible)
4:23 Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.
GOD's ways are higher than our ways.
Isaiah 55:9 (Amplified Bible)
55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.
We, humans have our own ways, the human ways, which fails.
Matthew 7:13 (Amplified Bible)
7:13 Enter through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and spacious and broad is the way that leads away to destruction, and many are those who are entering through it.
Stick to GOD's ways and roads, and GOD will not fail us.
Ways or "derek" in Hebrew meaning:
1. road
2. a course of life or mode of action
