Message Point: We must obey the Lord, even if we don’t understand.
Focus Passage: 2 Kings 5:1-15
Supplemental Passage: "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. (John 14:15 NASB)
Introduction: In the 1984 movie, “Karate Kid,” the character Daniel Larusso gives himself to learn karate from Mr. Miagi. Mr. Miagi gives him a series of menial tasks to perform such as waxing a car, painting a house, etc. Larusso gets angry and impatient that he isn’t learning karate, but has become his “servant.” Mr. Miagi shows him that he has actually been in strength training and Larusso is amazed to see that he can do it.
I. Extraordinary situation
a. Naaman had leprosy, for which there was no cure
b. The little captive girl told about a prophet who could cure
II. Extraordinary expectations
a. Naaman told the king about the prophet
b. The king wrote the king of Israel asking him to heal Naaman
c. The king of Israel was distraught because he knew he couldn’t heal leprosy
d. Elisha heard about it and told the king to send Naaman to him
e. Naaman expected Elisha to do more and was very upset
f. Naaman’s servant convinced him to try it
III. Extraordinary exaltation
a. Naaman obeyed the word of the prophet and went to the Jordan river
b. He dipped himself 7 times
c. He was completely healed
d. He declared there was no God but the God of Israel
e. Wanted some dirt from Israel to take home so he could continue to worship God.
