Numbness in the Kingdom

Introduction:

The author of the book of Hebrews is not certain.

There are two main themes in the book

1. the superiority of Christ

2. to warn the Christian not to abandon their faith or simply put backsliding.

A plant can remain dormant for a season but sooner or later it is either going to :

1) Bloom and grow

2) Die

3) Cannot remain dormant for ever.

Hebrew 5:11

11 of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

What is dullness of Hearing?

"Dull of hearing" a lack of spiritual awareness

You could say numb

Spiritualty numb

A numbness to the things of God.

So, the writer of Hebrews is not speaking to the lost

Speaking to the Christian the person in church

A person that has heard the word of God

Been in the presence of God

Seen and experienced God a move of God

Felt the Fire of Heaven

But yet has become numb.

Speaking to the Christian

Saying

A. Causes of Numbness:

I) Distractions

a. In your prayer closet

b. In your study time

c. In Church attendance.

d. In Church

e. Un Confessed sin

II) Lack of Preparation

a. Fail to prepare ourselves spiritually

b. Depend on others to do the job

c Speak to me Lord examine my heart

III) Failing to examine ourselves and apply the word

a. Oh that was a good message so and so should have heard that one.

b. The pitchfork mentality

c. No heart check.

IV) Failing to respond to the Holy Spirit.

a. Will lead you to a place where we are not dumb to the kingdom of God, but we become numb to the

things of God

b. Results of Numbness

a. Loss of Hunger for God

b. His word

c. His presence

II. Self is on the Throne

III Hard heart

a. Loss of compassion

b. Loss of mercy/grace

c. Become religious

d. Go through the motions

IV Become immature and can’t grow or learn more

Hebrews 5: 9-11

And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, 10 called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek,” 11 of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

Another words your not going to understand it

Its hard to explain

Not that I cant

But you do not have the ability to understand it

C. Cure for Numbness

1) Recognize it is you

Often times you cant see it others can

James1:23-24

23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;

24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was

2) Become a doer of the

James 1:22

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

3) Respond and obey

Hebrews 5:9

4) Renew my Love for you Lord

a. There is no love like that first love

To pray

To study the word

To come to church

To come to the altar

To tell our family our friends about JESUS
