Emphasize the urgency and importance of confessing Jesus as Lord in our lives, not as a one-time event, but as a daily surrender and process of growth into Christ-likeness.

Introduction

Good morning, church family. Today we're going to dive into a topic that is both urgent and timeless - the confession of our faith.

Our focus scripture for today's sermon is Philippians 2:10-11, which says,

"that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

This passage reminds us that the time for confession is now. It's a powerful call to acknowledge Jesus as Lord while we have the opportunity. It's not about just going through the motions or saying the right words. It's about a heart conviction and humbly submitting to His lordship over our lives.

As Billy Graham once said, "Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion - it is a daily process whereby you grow to be more and more like Christ." The confession of Jesus as our Lord is not a one-time event but a daily surrender, a daily process of acknowledging His lordship over our lives.

Let's bow our heads and open our hearts to the Lord as we pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for this day and for the opportunity to gather in your presence. As we explore your word today, open our hearts and minds to the urgency of confessing Jesus as our Lord. Let our confession be genuine and heartfelt. Teach us to submit to Your lordship daily and grow more into the likeness of Christ. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Let’s dive in.

Acceptable Confession to God

The first point we need to delve into is the concept of an acceptable confession to God. This is not just about uttering words or making a declaration. It's about a heartfelt, sincere, and humble acknowledgment of Jesus Christ as our Lord. It's about recognizing His sovereignty over our lives and submitting to His will.

What is confession?: When we talk about confession, we often think about admitting our sins. But confession in the context of our faith goes beyond that. It's about professing our belief in Jesus Christ, acknowledging His lordship, and submitting to His authority. It's about declaring that He is the Lord of our lives and that we are His followers.

A commitment: It's a pledge of allegiance to Jesus Christ. It's a promise to follow Him, to obey His commands, and to live according to His teachings. It's a commitment to live a life that is pleasing to Him, a life that reflects His love, His grace, and His mercy.

A form of worship: When we confess Jesus as our Lord, we are acknowledging His greatness, His power, and His majesty. We are expressing our awe and reverence for Him. We are praising Him for who He is and for what He has done for us.

What makes a confession acceptable to God?: The Bible tells us in Romans 10:9-10, "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."

What that verse means: This tells us that an acceptable confession is not just about saying the right words. It's about believing in our hearts. It's about having a genuine faith in Jesus Christ. It's about trusting in His saving power and His lordship. It's about having a personal relationship with Him.

Humility: It's about acknowledging our need for Jesus. It's about admitting that we are sinners in need of a Savior. It's about recognizing that we cannot save ourselves, that we need Jesus to save us.

Repentance: It's about turning away from our sins and turning to Jesus. It's about making a decision to live a new life in Christ, a life that is free from sin and full of righteousness.

Obedience: It's about submitting to the lordship of Jesus Christ. It's about obeying His commands and following His teachings. It's about living a life that is pleasing to Him.

Love: It's about loving Jesus with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind. It's about loving Him more than anything else in this world. It's about loving Him more than our own lives.

Pastor, here would be a good place to share a personal story about the time when you first confessed that Jesus is Lord. How did it change your life?
