Ephesians 4:25-5:2 Not IN My House

Remember Dikembe Mutombo? Born in the Congo in 1966, he moved to the United States and enrolled at Georgetown University. There, he played basketball under Hoya legend John Thompson. The Denver Nuggets drafted Mutombo with the fourth pick in the 1991 NBA draft. He went on to play for a number of NBA teams.

Mutombo was a good scorer, but he was a superb shot blocker. He became famous for his trademark finger wagging. After blocking a shot, he’d say, “Not in my house … no, no. no.” Mutombo’s words came across as both playful and forbidding, like “Don’t try this again. Not in my house … no, no, no.”

1. Our Houses, what are they for? some call it home, It’s a place of protection, a place that is mine, It’s a place of warmth, place of peace, place to relax, place to rest.

• Some things we do at home, we read, we sleep, we eat, we raise a family, we live in it.

• One of a home’s most important functions is to provide “a place for our stuff,” as the late comedian George Carlin once observed. “That’s all your house is: a place to keep your stuff,” he said. “If you didn’t have so much stuff, you wouldn’t need a house. … A house is just a pile of stuff with a cover on it.”

2. Our Homes all have rooms.

• Kitchen, bed room, dining room, a sitting room, a reading room, a living room, a guest room, a family room, a pool room, a room we watch TV, a game room.

• We can make room for certain things such as laughter, kindness, love, patience — and we should make room for God.

• Now Paul shares there is one room you should not have a room for the devil. “Do not make room for the devil,” the Bible says (v. 27).

3. We can make room for something’s but no room for the Devil and like Dikenbe Mutombo Not in my house no no no

• We never should have time for the devil he’s constantly prowling. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour

• We never set down with the devil The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

• We do not believe the lies of the devil. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

• We do not sell our souls to the devil. “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

• We do not entertain the devil Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

• The devils real and has many names — Lucifer, Prince of Darkness, Beelzebub , Lord of the Flies, the antichrist, Father of Lies, Moloch or simply Satan —

• The Devil will have a final resting Place And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

4. We should open our homes and make room for God

• God is knocking on every homes doors 0 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

• We make room for God in our homes by Create space in our hearts and minds.

• Behold Prayer and Meditation stands at the door knocking.

• Behold Trust stands at the door knocking “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”Seek His guidance in our decisions.

• Behold His Teachings stand at the door knocking6 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you Align our actions with His teachings.

• Live in a way that continuously acknowledges His sovereignty and grace.

• We make room for God in our homes by Spend time alone with God.

• Talk to God and listen for His voice.

• We make room for God in our homes by Read and meditate on His Word, the Bible
