Summary: The root-and-foundation of FEAR is the UNKNOWN.

There are all kinds of Phobiaes:

Claustrophobia: Fear of confined spaces.

Arachnophobia: Fear of spiders.

Op-hid-io-phobia: Fear of sankes.

Arith-mop-hobia: Fear of numbers.

Carn-o-phobia: Fear of meat.

Cib-o-phobia: Fear of food.

Agora-phobia: Fear of crowds.

Ep-he-bi-phobia: Fear of teenagers.

Gloss-o-phobia: Fear of public speaking.

Ly-go-phobia: Fear of the dark.

Pen-the-ra-phobia: Fear of mother-in-laws.

Zemm-i-phobia: Fear of mole rats.

X-anth-o-phobia: Fear of the color yellow.

You get the idea, there are phobias for everything…

There is even one for chins!

Gen-i-o-phobia: Fear of chins.

There is even a phobia of phobias:

Phob-o-phobia: Fear of phobias.

Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR), said in his first Inaugural Address on March 4, 1933: “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself”.

I think the root-and-foundation of FEAR is the UNKNOWN.

II Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” –KJV

Fear is bondage, a prison.

But the Phobia I want to deal with today is:

Than-to-phobia- Fear of dying.

Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” -KJV

Genesis 3:19 states that “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou [art], and unto dust shalt thou return.” -KJV

Psalm 104:29 “Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.” -KJV

Ecclesiastes 12:7 “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” -KJV

Ecclesiastes 3:20 “All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.” -KJV

Psalm 89:48 “What man [is he that] liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave?” -KJV

Ecclesiastes 9:5 “For the living know that they shall die…” -KJV

Fear of dying does not come from the fact of knowing that we are going to die.

Rather it comes from the unknowns after death.

So how do we mitigate this fear of dying?

I wouldn’t have to fear death and dying if I knew I was going to live forever.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” –KJV

John 3:36 “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” –KJV

Jesus said in John 4:14 “…the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” –KJV

I John 3:14 “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not [his] brother abideth in death.” -KJV

In John 5:24 Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” -KJV

In John 6:47 Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” -KJV

John 7:38 “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” -KJV

And how does it say to “believe on Him”?

Mark 16:16; Acts 2, 8, 10, 19

I Corinthians 15:54-56; “54-… Death is swallowed up in victory. 55- O death, where [is] thy sting? O grave, where [is] thy victory? 56- The sting of death [is] sin; and the strength of sin [is] the law.” -KJV

Paul is quoting from Hosea 13:14.

Hosea 13:14 “I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction…” –KJV

John 11:26 “And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”
