Summary: We are all wore out. Life drains us. The continual attacks of the enemy take our strength. But through it all, we must stay awake spiritually.

Not Time for Sleeping

Romans 13:11,12

11 ¶ And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

It is so very important that we realize the times that we are living in. We are so very close to the coming of the Lord. The Bible predicts it, the signs are being fulfilled, you know it, and the devil knows it also.

If the enemy can lull us to sleep spiritually, he would be elated. He tries his best to dull our senses and give us a sense that we need not to be alert or concerned.

God is looking for a people that are AWAKE. They are alert and sober; aware of what is going on around them. Not those who have become "woke", believing that they now see things in a new light.

Jacob-- He was numb to the presence of the Lord.

Gen. 28:16

And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.

Have you been in the right place but not aware that God was dealing with your life?

Jonah-- The man who tried to run from God.

Jonah 1:6

So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

He believed that he could simply run off a different direction and no one would be the worse for it.

Samson-- He lost his strength while flirting and participating with the worldly.

Judges 16:20

And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.

Eutychus--Sitting too close to distractions.

Acts 20:9

And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.

Don't see how close you can be to the world and still be in church.

The Prodigal Son

Luke 15:17

And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

He had a wake up call that changed everything.

The Right time to sleep!

1Th 5:6 ¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

1Th 5:7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

You can live in la-la land and pretend to be someone that you really aren't. Or you can wake up and find your potential in Christ and become all that He wants you to be.

You are:

1. The person you think you are.

2. The person others think you are.

3. The person you believe that others think you are.

4. The person that God knows you to be.

Wake up!

Some ways that people are put to sleep:

1. Hipnosis

2. Anasthesia

3. A brutal blow to the head

4. Fainting

5. Sedatives

6. Fatigue

In the spiritual, the enemy of our soul will try any and all of these methods to keep you from being alert and aware of the dangers surrounding us.

Eph 5:14

Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

Daydreaming is even more dangerous than sleeping. One may be conscious, but not even aware of circumstances happening in real time.
