Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
This sermon explores the profound truth of being crucified with Christ, living not for ourselves, but allowing Christ to live within us.
Good morning, beloved family in Christ. I am thrilled to stand before you today, not because I have all the answers, but because we get to gather in the presence of the One who does. As we gather in this sanctuary, let's take a moment to remember that we are standing on holy ground. This is not just another day, another sermon, or another gathering. This is a sacred moment, a moment where we can meet with our Savior, a moment where we can lean in and listen to what He has to say.
Today, we turn our hearts and minds to the powerful words of Galatians 2:20, "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
What a profound truth this is! We are not just followers of Christ, but we are intimately connected to Him. Our old life, our old self, our old ways - they have been crucified with Christ. And now, it is Christ who lives in us. It is His life that we now live. It is His love that now fills us. It is His purpose that now drives us.
As we reflect on the words of Galatians 2:20, we find ourselves standing at the foot of the cross. It's a place of pain and sorrow, yes, but also a place of profound love and transformation. Here, we see Christ, the Son of God, willingly giving Himself up for us. He takes on our sins, our failures, our brokenness. He bears the weight of it all, and in doing so, He paves the way for our redemption.
This is the crucifixion. It's not just a historical event, but a spiritual reality that we are invited to participate in. When we accept Christ as our Savior, we are crucified with Him. Our old self, with all its sins and failures, is nailed to the cross. It's a death, yes, but it's a necessary death. It's the death of our old self, our sinful nature, our old ways of thinking and living.
But the crucifixion is not the end of the story. It's the beginning of a new life, a new identity, a new way of being. When we are crucified with Christ, we are also raised with Him. We are given a new life, a life that is no longer defined by our sins and failures, but by Christ's righteousness and victory.
This new life is a gift of grace that we receive by faith. We don't have to strive or struggle to live this new life. We simply have to trust in Christ, to rely on His strength, to surrender to His will. This is the life that Paul talks about in Galatians 2:20. It's a life lived by faith in the Son of God, a life that is not our own, but Christ's. It's a life where Christ is not just our Savior, but our Lord, our King, our everything.
In this new life, Christ is not just a distant deity or a historical figure. He is a living presence, a personal friend, a constant companion. He lives in us, and we live in Him. We share in His life, His love, His joy, His peace. This is what it means to be crucified with Christ and to let Christ live in us. It's not just a theological idea or a spiritual concept. It's a lived reality, a daily experience, a transformative journey.
