We are living in a changing world. Our friends, fiancees, and even our features change. Fashions change.

However, in the midst of an changing world there is an unchanging God.

For a thing to change it is necessary that the change occur in one of two direction: better to worse of worse to better. Now in man change is impossible to escape, but in God change is an impossibility. The second law of thermodynamics declares that everything tends to wear out, run down, and disintegrate. Everything tends to change but God.

With God is “no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” He cannot change for better, for He is already perfect; and being perfect, he cannot change for worse. He is always the same.

Herein is comfort. God can be relied upon. He is not fickled. He is stable. He is steadfast and sure.

As the first American astronaut prepared to go into space, one reporter asked, “What are you depending on most in your venture?” No doubt, the reporter expected the astronaut to say something about the quality of his equipment, his navigational skills, or the people at the space center. But instead, he replied, “That God will not change His laws.” He did not have to worry about that.

I. There is “no variableness, neither shadow of turning” with God with regards to the preciousness of His record - the Bible

Psalm 119:89 “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.”

His Word is precious because it changes not.

A. It is an inspired book - 2 Timothy 3:16

B. It is an indestructible book

C. It is an inexhaustible book

D. It is an in indispensable book

II. There is “no variableness, neither shadow of turning” with God with regards to the provision for redemption.

2 Corinthians 5:21; John 14:6; Acts 4:12

A. The STRONG DECLARATION

“Neither is there salvation in any other”

B. The SINGULAR DESIGNATION

“There is none other name under heaven given among men”

That is, no other person designed or appointed by God, to be the author of redemption for a lost and miserable world, but only Christ. C. The SIMPLE DEMAND

“Whereby we must be saved” It is imperative - we must be saved! Being saved is not a choice it is an absolute must. An absolute must that is so simple.

III. There is “no variableness, neither shadow of turning” with God with regards to the punishment of the rebellious

Revelation 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone.”

It is Jesus Christ or eternal damnation for every man.

Hell is a literal place. It is a place

• where the howling is unimaginable

• where the flames are unquenchable

• where the pain is unrelievable

• where the company is unrespectable

• where rest is unobtainable - "no rest day nor night"

• where desires are unsatisfiable

• where the end is unforeseeable

• where mercy is unreachable

• where prayers are unanswerable

• where sin is unforgivable

• where salvation is unavailable

IV. There is “no variableness, neither shadow of turning” with God with regards to the promise of His return

John 14:1-3

The purpose of His departure becomes the assurance and guarantee of His return. The departure had for its purpose the preparing of a place for us; therefore it necessarily follows a return for us.

A. Heaven is a promised place

B. Heaven is a prepared place

C. Heaven is a personal place

Conclusion

In ths world where men change so quickly. Their attitude toward us change as their private interest dictates. It is a great comfort to know that God with whom we have to do does not change.

He is always the same. He is a rock on which I may fix my feet, while everything around me changes.
