Welcome, beloved congregation, to this sacred gathering where we come together under the shelter of God's love and the guidance of His word. We are here to seek His wisdom, to learn from His teachings, and to strive to walk in the footsteps of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, we often forget the power and importance of turning to Jesus for answers. We sometimes lose sight of the significance of trusting His teachings and taking steps to obey Him. But today, we are going to remind ourselves of these fundamental truths.
The great Christian theologian, J.I. Packer, once said, "Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to know God, most of life's problems fall into place of their own accord." The wisdom in these words is profound. It is a reminder that a life grounded in the teachings and love of Jesus Christ is a life filled with purpose, peace, and clarity.
As we gather here today, we find ourselves drawn to the wisdom of the Scripture, to the teachings of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We are here because we seek answers, we seek guidance, and we seek a sense of purpose that can only be found in the embrace of God's love. And what better way to find these than in the teachings of Jesus, our Savior, our guide, our beacon of hope in this often confusing and chaotic world?
Our Scripture today, from the book of Matthew, gives us a profound insight into the teachings of Jesus. It presents us with a question, a challenge, and a commandment. It asks us to ponder on the nature of our relationship with God, with our neighbors, and with ourselves. It challenges us to examine our understanding of love, of devotion, and of obedience. And it commands us to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
Now, let's take a closer look at this Scripture, at the teachings it holds, and the wisdom it imparts. The Pharisees, experts in the law, test Jesus with a question about the greatest commandment in the Law. Jesus responds not with one, but with two commandments. The first, to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and the second, to love our neighbors as ourselves.
