"Nailed To The Cross"

NAILED TO THE CROSS--Colossians: 2:13-15

One of the things that frustrate me the most about the Christian Life is listening to defeated Christians.

We either have habits in our life that we seem to think that we can’t overcome.

Or we have placed so many added restrictions to our Christian life that it has robbed of the joy of our salvation.

I want to tell you in this message that Jesus has nailed those things to the Cross so that we can life an abundant life in Christ.

JESUS SAID

John 10:10 I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

JESUS DID NOT DIE ON THE CROSS SO THAT WE CAN LIVE A DEFEATED LIFE,

PAUL SAYS IN THESE VERSES I JUST READ THAT JESUS NAILED ALL OF THAT TO THE CROSS…

I. HE NAILED OUR SINS TO THE CROSS (Colossians 2:13 And you being dead in your trespasses and the un-circumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses)

A. BECAUSE WE WERE DEAD IN OUR SINS (Rom 6:23) Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

B. BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CHANGE OF HEART (Rom 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

C. BECAUSE OF HIS LOVE HE MADE US ALIVE WITH HIM (How? By forgiving us of our trespasses)

II. HE NAILED OUR HANDWRITINGS TO THE CROSS (V.14)

The word handwritings = something written with hand and requirements is the word dogma which could be translated as doctrine or ordinances.

Remember that the Bible says that the Ten Commandments were wrote by the finger of God, so we are talking about ordinances that man has written.

The Pharisees started off (I believe) as God fearing men trying to interpret the law of God so that people could understand them.

They took the Ten Commandments and made 613 laws, until it got to the point that they could not even follow them.

Have you ever noticed how Pharisaical that the Church world Has gotten some times?

• We have rules on how to dress (Jesus never wore the priestly robe of the Pharisees)

• What music to listen to

• Who we are to talk to (Jesus talking to prostitutes)

• Places that we go (Jesus in the houses of sinners)

• How we wear our hair.

OUR SINS HAVE ROBBED US OF OUR ABUNDANT LIFE IN CHRIST

OUR RELIGIOUS LAWS ROB US OF OUR ABUNDANT LIFE IN CHRIST.

III. HE NAILED OUR CLEANSING ON THE CROSS

That which was contrary to us: Contrary = opposed, opponent, adversary, against

 HE HAS TAKEN IT OUT OF THE WAY

• Numbers 5:23 And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall blot them out with the bitter water:

• Talking about the process of using a mixture of fluids to remove an accusation that has been written down so that the person can go on without speculation

• When Jesus nailed it to the Cross He not only forgave our sins He removed them!

IV. HE NAILED OUR TRIUMPH ON THE CROSS

1. HE DISARMED OUR ENEMY (ALL PRINCIPALITIES AND POWERS)

Ephesians. 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

2. OUR BATTLES IS AGAINST THE PRINCIPALITIES AND POWERS

Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

3. HE MADE A PUBLIC SPECTACLE OF THEM

In the days of the Roman empire, any time a Roman general returned home after a successful military campaign, he was honored with a special ceremony called a triumph. A parade was thrown in his honor, with the general leading the way in his chariot and prisoners of war following along behind it.

CHURCH!

OUR GENERAL HAS WON THE BATTLE AND OUR SINS AND RELIGIOUS BONDAGE IS BEEN PUT ON PUBLIC DISPLAY SO THAT WE WILL KNOW THAT THERE IS NO REASON FOR A DEFEATED LIFE.

Will you, in just a few moments, acknowledge that those sins and bondage that you have been under are defeated on the Cross.

Jesus nailed them to the Cross. Would you be willing to come and Symbolically NAIL THEM TO THIS CROSS?

It’s a “Done Deal,” Quit worrying about things in your past. Begin anew at this point and time. Allow the Lord to USE you in the Future in a positive way to Help Build His Kingdom. AMEN
