The Bible by Jesus unless otherwise noted

A. MY BIRTH – LUKE 1:26-38; 2:10-35

1. Mother a virgin. “The angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, a virgin” (Luke 1:27). Conceived supernaturally. “The Holy Spirit will come on you and the power of the Most High God will make it happen” (1:35).

2. I grew in Mary’s womb. “As Mary entered the house, the baby (John the Baptist), leaped in Elizabeth’s womb, because he knew he was in the presence of the Messiah” (1:44). Normal birth. “The birth was imminent, so Mary gave birth while in Bethlehem” (2:6).

3. I was cared for. “Mary wrapped Me in strips of cloth, swaddling clothes, and laid Me in a feed trough” (2:7).

4. Angels announced. “The sky lit up . . . overwhelming light . . . a shining angel announced . . . ‘don’t be afraid . . . wonderful news . . . for you and everyone in the world. Tonight the Deliverer – the LORD – was born in Bethlehem’” (2:9-11). My life began with worship. “Gigantic angelic choir . . . glory to God” (2:13-14). Shepherd’s worshipped. “Shepherds glorified and praised God” (2:20, NKJV).

5. Mary didn’t understand. “Mary kept all these things in her heart and pondered them” (2:19).

6. Circumcised. “I was circumcised the eighth day . . . they called My name Jesus” (2:21). Old Simon knew I was coming. “A senior man Simon . . . looked for the kingdom . . . the Lord told him he would see the Deliverer” (2:25-27). God told him what day. “The Lord revealed he would see Me . . . that day” (2:27-28). He blessed Me, not the corrupt priest. “Simon took Me into his arms and blessed Me . . . many would be saved” (2:35).

7. My parents obeyed childrearing requirements. “They did everything according to Scriptures . . . returned to Nazareth” (2:39, ELT).

8. Towns believes Mary taught Jesus to write and made Him copy the Scriptures. The angel told Mary her Son would be a King. “God will give your Son the throne of David” (Luke 1:32). A king is . . . to write for himself a copy of the law . . . read from it every day” (Deut. 17:18-19).

9. Jesus was an obedient child. “I . . . was under authority to them” (2:51).

10. Jesus was well rounded and grew/matured in all areas. “I grew in mental ability and physical strength, and was respected by God the Father and all people” (2:52).

a. He didn’t know all things at all times, He knew what He had to know.

b. He didn’t have all strength (physical, mental, etc.), to do all things all the time, He had all He needed at every time He needed it.

c. In the Hypostatic Union, He is totally God and totally human all the time.

d. The Kenosis. “I emptied Myself and took on human flesh and became a servant. I humbled Myself even more. I became obedient to death” (Phil. 2:6-7).

B. MY BAR MIZPAH – LUKE 2:41-50

1. I was obedient to visit My father’s house. “I went with My parents to Jerusalem for the annual Passover feast when I was twelve years old” (2:41).

2. I focus on learning, not activities. “They found Me sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking questions” (2:46).

3. I gave glimpses of My wisdom. “All . . . were greatly impressed at My level of comprehension” (2:47). I taught them. “With the difficult questions I asked them” (2:47).

4. My parents didn’t know all about Me. “Joseph and Mary were astonished” (2:48). Yet they treated Me as a child. “Why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been worried” (2:48).

5. My nature directed Me where to go. “Didn’t you know I would be about My Heavenly Father’s business?” (2:49).

6. My father Joseph died after this. He is never mentioned again in Scriptures.

C. TAKE AWAY

1. I was seen as a normal child, growing in a normal way.

2. There are only a few glimpses that I was the Son of God.

3. I didn’t do miracles, nor speak authoritatively, nor announce Myself until My baptism by John.

If you have never really accepted Jesus as your personal Savior, would you do it right now? Do not delay or put it off. If you would like to receive Christ by faith, pray this simple prayer in your heart:

Dear Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died for my sins on the cross, and rose again the third day. I repent of my sins. By faith I receive the Lord Jesus as my Savior. You promised to save me, and I believe You, because You are God and cannot lie. I believe right now that the Lord Jesus is my personal Savior, and that all my sins are forgiven through His precious blood. I thank You, dear Lord, for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
