My Hope. My Defense. Psalm 62:5-8
Contributed by David Cramer on Aug 4, 2025 (message contributor)
Summary: A message about the hope we have by having a life with and through Jesus Christ.
Good Morning
Grab your bible and say this with me
This is my Bible
I am what is says I am
I have what it says I have
I can do what it says I can do.
Today I will be taught more of the Word of God
I boldly confess My Mind is alert
My heart is receptive.
I will never be the same.
I am about to receive the incorruptible, Indestructible ever-living seed of the Word of God
I will never be the same
I'll never be the same, In Jesus Name!
Amen.
My Hope, My Defense
Turn with me in your Bible to Psalm 62:5–8, and say, "Amen" when you are there.
What is a Battle We All Face
Church, can we be honest?
Life has a way of testing everything we believe.
There are seasons when storms rage, when enemies rise, and when it feels like everything we’ve hoped for is slipping away.
And in those moments, the question that echoes deep in our hearts is:
“Where is my hope now? Who will defend me?”
But God’s Word answers that cry:
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.” (Psalm 62:5–6)
Today, I want to remind you—and declare boldly—that God is not only your hope,
He is your defender.
I. Hope That Doesn’t Disappoint
(Romans 5:1–5)
Hope in this world is fragile. It often depends on people, paychecks, or outcomes. But hope in God is anchored in the eternal.
“And hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 5:5)
The world offers escape; God offers endurance.
The world says “avoid suffering”; God says “I’ll walk through it with you.”
God-breathed hope sustains us when everything else fails.
It’s not based on what might happen—it's based on what already did happen:
Jesus died, rose again, and conquered every power that could defeat us.
II. God Is Your Defender
(Psalm 62:6–8, Isaiah 54:17)
“He is my fortress, I will never be shaken… My salvation and my honor depend on God.” (Psalm 62)
It is a powerful truth: You do not have to fight every battle.
Your defender is not a lawyer, not a friend in high places, not even your own strength.
Your defender is the King of Glory, and when He stands up, all of heaven backs you.
“This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged… for the battle is not yours, but God’s.’” (2 Chronicles 20:15)
“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn…” (Isaiah 54:17)
Let this sink in: You’re not just protected—you’re vindicated.
God doesn’t just shield you; He silences your accusers.
Encouraging Testimony: “I Didn’t Have to Fight”
Let me share a story.
A friend of mine, a young missionary, was falsely accused while serving in another country. Political motives stirred up lies, and the situation looked like it would destroy not only her reputation but the work of the ministry.
She prayed, fasted, and waited—not even trying to clear her name.
Within two weeks, someone in the government exposed the false charges. Her name was cleared, and the very people who tried to stop her came under conviction and eventually came to faith in Christ.
When she returned, she said through tears:
“I thought I needed to fight. But I discovered that when you let God defend you, His justice is more perfect than anything you could ever orchestrate.”
III. When Hope Runs Low
Maybe you’ve come in today feeling…
Defeated
Accused
Forgotten
Weary of waiting
Let me encourage you: Even when you can’t trace His hand, you can trust His heart.
Psalm 121 says:
“I lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
Don’t let today’s trouble cloud tomorrow’s promise.
Your hope is alive because Jesus is alive.
Your defense is strong because God never loses a battle.
🙏 Guided Time of Prayer
Let’s turn this moment into a sacred space.
Wherever you are—whether in a pew or watching online—let’s come boldly before the One who gives hope and defends the broken.
Let's have quiet, reflective prayer:
For those battling fear — “Lord, be my peace.”
For those under attack — “God, be my defender.”
For those losing hope — “Jesus, anchor me again.”
Return to the Rock
Maybe you’ve never surrendered your life to Jesus. Or maybe you once walked with Him, but lately, your hope has grown cold.
You've been defending yourself, carrying your own weight.
Hear this today:
There is a Rock that doesn’t shake. A Refuge that doesn’t close. A Defender who never sleeps.
