Summary: In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

My Father’s House

This is what Jesus is talking about in John chapter 14. Verses 1 through 6.

John 14:1-6 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And where I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not where you are going; and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

My fathers house is heaven. Jesus is teaching us about heaven.

1. Heaven is a PREPARED place.

Verse one Jesus says I go to PREPARE a place for you. Verse 3 he says and if I go to PREPARE a place for you I will come again and receive you to myself.

Jesus is preparing a place for us to spend eternity with him.

What is heaven? Heaven is all that the mind of God can conceive and the power of God can create.

Paul said eye has not seen nor has it entered into the heart of man what God has prepared for us.

Who is Jesus preparing heaven for? He said I go and prepare a place for YOU. Who is he speaking to when he says you? He is speaking to his disciples. But not only to the first disciples but unto you all who have and will believe in him as their Lord and Savior.

There are those who preach that everyone will go to heaven. It’s called universalism. This is not true. Only those who believe that Jesus is the way the truth and the life and commit their lives to him as Lord and Savior well go to heaven.

2. Second heaven is a PERFECT place.

It is a perfect place because heaven is where our heavenly father is.

Matthew 5 verse 16 says that our father is in heaven.

Matthew 6 verse 9 Jesus teaches us to pray to our father “Which art in heaven.”

Our heavenly father who is pure and perfect and holy is in heaven.

heaven is perfect because it is where our savior is.

Hebrews 9 verse 24 says Christ has entered into heaven.

After Jesus died on the cross was buried and rose again he went back to heaven. Heaven is perfect because our Savior is there.

Heaven is perfect because in heaven there is no more sin or sorrow.

In revelation 21 verse 4 the Bible says and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death neither sorrow nor crying neither shall there be any more pain for the former things are passed away.Behold God will make all things new.

Matthew 13 verse 41 the Bible says God will send his angels and they will remove out of his kingdom all who sin and all evil doers. Heaven is a perfect place because there is no more sin or sorrow there.

3. Third heaven is a PURIFIED place.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 The Bible says, “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”

That pretty much wipes out all of us, and if it doesn’t, revelation 21 verse 8 adds to the list “and all liars.”

In order to go to heaven a person must be changed, transformed, born again, purified.

Jesus tells us in John chapter 3 “except you be born again you cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven.“

2 Corinthians 5 verse 17 says if any man be in Christ he is a new creature.

The only way to be purified and fit for heaven is to be cleansed of all your sins by the blood of Christ.

Revelation 1:5 Speaking of Christ says, “To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood.”

Heaven is a prepared place, a perfect place, and purified place. Jesus is the door to heaven. The only way in is through him.

Acts 4:12 “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
