Multitude Of Counselors
Contributed by Dr. Ronald Shultz on Dec 7, 2019 (message contributor)
Summary: Always be willing to hear constructive criticism as well as words of affirmation.
Proverbs 11:14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. KJV
Being I have transitioned from part time to full time ministry in that I am available to do more I would like some input from my friends. I am doing some things, but I would like some input since I only have 180 degree vision. Indeed, the ultimate direction is from God, but He sometimes speaks through His people. I do know that my time as a pastor or professor is over as is any hope to be an Olympic runner. ;-) That said, other things are still possible. That is where I need some help.
Those of you who have known me many years be it in person or by Social Media I would like you to comment on what you think my primary gift might be or an area where you think I could best be used. Karen’s gift is definitely that of helps or service and it has been said that we will serve together at some point and she will serve many. I look forward to that!
Over the years, I have done many things because there was a need and I was breathing and could do it so I could not see a reason to say no. You can wear many hats in a small church to medium sized church. In my twilight years, I would like to focus on what is my strongest gift to end strong and hopefully be more fruitful than I have been in the last forty years. When you have worn many hats it can be difficult to discern without some outside help.
I realize there may be some variety. I love to sing, but I am not heavily gifted in that. In fact, one friend told me I cannot carry a tune in a bucket and a church member tell me he never anyone sing like me and meant it as a compliment. It could have gone the other way. Once, I had a man tell me he never knew a preacher who could sing after I sang before a sermon. I asked if I couldn’t sing, couldn’t preach or both. He meant I did both well at least to his ears. ;-) So I may get five that say a certain gift is my strongest and five others who think it is my least. That’s OK. It will be interesting.
I know some of you believe in words of knowledge or wisdom and some even prophetic words. I am open to all. You can answer here or PM me. I will compile the list and take them in prayer to the throne of grace hoping that God will speak me to clearly as what the next mission or area of concentration should be in my ministry.
Thanks to all
