Encourage believers to step out in faith and courage, trusting in God's promise of His presence and the power of His Word, to accomplish the impossible tasks He calls us to.

Introduction

Good morning, Church family.

A.W. Tozer once wrote, "God is looking for people through whom He can do the impossible. What a pity we plan only the things we can do by ourselves." Isn't that a profound statement? It's easy to get caught up in the things we can do, isn't it? But what about the things God can do through us?

This morning, we're going to dive into a passage from the book of Joshua. Joshua, a man who was called to step into some pretty big shoes after the death of Moses, and lead God's people into the Promised Land. And in this passage, we see God's call to courageous action, His promise of presence, and the power of His word. Let's read together from Joshua 1:1-9:

God's Call to Courageous Action

In the passage we just read, we see God calling Joshua to courageous action. This is not a timid or hesitant call, but a bold and resolute one. God is not asking Joshua to simply maintain the status quo or to continue in the same vein as Moses. Instead, He is calling him to step up, to take the reins, and to lead the people of Israel into the Promised Land. This is a daunting task, a task that requires not just physical strength, but also mental and spiritual fortitude.

Not a call to reckless or foolhardy behavior: It's not a call to throw caution to the wind and charge ahead without thinking. Rather, it's a call to step out in faith, trusting in God's guidance and provision. It's a call to face challenges head-on, not because we are confident in our own abilities, but because we are confident in God's power and faithfulness.

For all of us: Each one of us is called to step out in faith, to take risks for the sake of the Gospel, and to face challenges with courage and determination. This might mean stepping out of our comfort zones, taking on new responsibilities, or standing up for what is right, even when it's unpopular or difficult.

A call to obedience: In the passage, God tells Joshua to be careful to obey all the law that Moses gave him. This is not an optional extra, but an integral part of the call. Courageous action without obedience is just recklessness. But when we combine courage with obedience, we become a powerful force for God's kingdom.

A lifelong journey: Just as Joshua was called to lead the people of Israel into the Promised Land, we are called to continually step out in faith, to face new challenges, and to keep pushing forward, no matter what obstacles we encounter.

Not a solitary endeavor: Joshua was not alone in his task. God promised to be with him every step of the way. And the same is true for us. When we step out in faith, we are not alone. God is with us, guiding us, strengthening us, and helping us to overcome any obstacles we encounter.
