Moving Beyond Insecurity

In Romans 8, beginning at verse 31 we read this powerful God-breathed words…

If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 8:31-39

Pray Us Into..

WELCOME – to week two of our four week series, “Overcome, The Challenges We Face.”

UNDERSTAND MGCC – it is God plan and His desire that you overcome ever challenge that stands in the way of you becoming the person… AND – living the life that He created and intends for you to live.

NOW LAST WEEK – we talked about overcoming the challenge of anxiety… which is unhealthy, unproductive and unbecoming for a child of God (The Sovereign King of the Universe).

AND – in that conversation we discovered how we can reverse anxiety and walk a path that leads us to the peace of God that transcends all understanding…

AND SO – here’s the deal.

WHEN – the winds and waves of anxiety come crashing over our lives… IF – we want Jesus to say to those wind and waves peace be still, calming those storms. THEN – we must…

C - Celebrate God’s Greatness and Goodness

A - Ask God for help

L- Leave your anxiety with Him

M - Meditate on good things

S- Start doing what you know

AND – let me tell you, it really does work… it really does calm anxiety down and bring the peace of God.

IN FACT – I need to use CALMS this past week…

AND LIKE – I had peace and it made no sense to have it.

NOW - THIS MORNING (02/24/2019) – we are going to talk about overcoming another challenge that often stands between you and the life God intends… in a conversation that I am calling… “Moving Beyond Insecurity”

AND – here is how I want to drill down on this conversation… BY - unpacking 3 statements…

#1 – What Insecurity Is

#2 – What causes insecurity

#3 – Moving Beyond insecurity

OKAY – let’s do this…

What Insecurity Is

LET ME – just give a basic definition of what insecurity means.

Insecurity

1) self doubt

2) a feeling of uncertainty about yourself

3) lack of confidence about yourself

4) low self esteem

Insecurity what is it….

It’s Everyone’s Battle

UNDERSTAND – insecurity is no respecter of persons.

AND – because of that it is pretty much at one time or another everyone’s battle.

I MEAN – insecurity is a challenge faced by…

young and old, male and female, rich and poor, famous and not famous, educated and non-educated….

NOW - here are a few famous people who have battled with insecurity…

OKAY – this guy came from an extremely influential family.

He was a diplomat, a US Congressman, a US Secretary Of State and the 6th President of the United States.

I would say that is a pretty impressive resume. I mean, of the hundred of millions of people who have lived in our country in the last 230 years only 45 people have held that office. YET – at the age of 70 when he looked back on his life he said

John Quincy Adams

“My whole life has been a succession of disappointment. I can scarcely recollect a single instance of success in anything I ever undertook.”

This famous Pulitzer Prize winning author of ‘The Grapes Of Wrath’ and other works such as… Of Mice and Men and East of Eden, said that…

John Steinbeck

He felt like an imposter for the praise he got for his work…

Once writing in his journal, “I am not a writer. I’ve been fooling myself and other people.”

This US President before his inauguration wrote a letter to Supreme Court Chief Justice John Rutledge about how he was concerned about not being able to live up to the people’s expectations. Perhaps, you recognize him…
