Summary: We are all called to be God’s mouthpiece in this world. This puts us in a very unique and key position in the Kingdom of God. It also places some challenging responsibilities upon us.

Mouthpieces

Isaiah 6:8

This evening I would like to take a few moments to share some thoughts the Lord laid on my heart a couple of months ago. It dove tails so well with what I shared on this morning, that I would like to continue it tonight. The title of my message is Mouthpieces.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson went on a camping trip. After a good meal and a bottle of wine, they crawled into their tent and went to sleep. In the middle of the night, Holmes awoke and nudged his friend. “Watson, look up and tell me what you see.” Watson replied, “I see millions and millions of stars.” “What does that tell you, Watson?” Asked Holmes. Watson pondered a moment and then replied, “Astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, I observe that Saturn is within the Leo constellation. Chronologically I observe it’s nighttime 3 a.m. on June 14th. Meteorologically, the air appears dry, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day. Why did you ask? What does it tell you?” Holmes says, “Watson, you idiot! Someone has stolen our tent!”

We have been called to be the mouthpiece of God in the world in which we live. This is not new, He has been using man to declare his message since creation. But today the responsibility is up to us. This puts us in an interesting position.

Display Trumpet…

I have a trumpet here.

On the end of the trumpet is a mouth piece.

?What is the purpose of the mouthpiece?

-There are several areas that I would like to look at concerning the role of the mouthpiece of God.

1) Mouth pieces do not act independently.

a)Every Mouth Piece is different

This is where we fit in with this morning…

Rom 15:5,6

b)Every Mouth Piece has a independent sound

c)Every Mouth Piece must be clean and in good repair

d)Every Mouth Piece must harmonize with those around

Psalms 133:1

2)Mouth Pieces must have an instrument.

Without an instrument a mouth piece is rather useless.

A mouth piece was designed to function with an instrument. God as given us several instruments to use our mouth piece with. They each have two different functions

a) Our lives

Matt 5:13-16

b) Our Church

3) Mouth Pieces must have a musician.

God wants to do so much for us if we will only submit fully and completely to Him. If we truly will say, not my will but your will be done.

Ez 36:26-28

Rom 8:14

It is like the mouthpiece in an instrument. For the music to be produced the mouth piece must be subject to the musician.

a)The mouth piece is subject to the musician

James 4:13-16

Ps 51:16,17

b)The mouth piece is key in helping the musician produce a melody

Conclusion

Tonight we are going to put ourselves in the place of that mouth piece. Remember it is not the responsibility of the mouth piece to choose the tune…we are simply a conduit through which God flows. My challenge to you tonight is to check the condition…

1) Is it clean

2) Is it in Harmony

3) Is it in summission
