Summary: Sometimes we focus too much on the mountain and too little on the God who controls it. But the more you focus on the Lord, the smaller your mountain becomes.

MOUNTAINS SHALL MELT LIKE WAX

There are moments in life when we stand before situations that look immovable, unshakable, and impossible. We face challenges that rise higher than our strength and wider than our understanding. These situations become mountains before us. Mountains of sickness. Mountains of financial pressure. Mountains of family battles. Mountains of delayed breakthroughs. Mountains of inner struggles. Mountains of opposition.

But the Word of God declares a powerful truth that reshapes our faith and restores our confidence: “The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the Lord.”

This statement is found in Psalm 97:5, and it announces the authority of God over every form of impossibility. It tells us that nothing is too hard for God, nothing is too heavy for His hand, and nothing is too strong to remain standing when His presence appears.

The scripture does not say mountains will be reduced slowly. It does not say mountains will be chipped away little by little. It says they will melt like wax. Wax does not resist fire. Wax does not argue with heat. When fire arrives, wax has only one response. It surrenders. It dissolves. It changes form instantly. This is what David meant: when God steps in, the strongest opposition surrenders instantly.

In Scripture, mountains represent obstacles, resistance, fear, doubt, and hindrances. Yet God consistently reveals Himself as the One who has power over every mountain. In Zechariah 4:7, God asked the question, “Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain.” God was announcing that no mountain can stand forever. His presence turns obstacles into open paths. His power turns barriers into bridges.

There was a mountain standing before the children of Israel when they reached the Red Sea. Behind them was Pharaoh, and before them was an impossible barrier. But in Exodus 14:21, the Lord caused the waters to part. What looked like a mountain became a pathway. Moses did not need strength to move the sea. He only needed God’s presence. This teaches us that what frustrates us does not frustrate God. What overwhelms us does not overwhelm Him. Mountains melt when He comes near.

In the days of Elijah, the nation faced the mountain of idolatry and spiritual dryness. But when Elijah called upon the Lord in 1 Kings 18:38, fire fell from heaven. The fire of God corrected the nation, exposed falsehood, and restored righteousness. This is what God’s presence does. It melts away deception. It melts away confusion. It burns away the spiritual dryness that tries to settle in the hearts of people.

Jesus also reaffirmed this truth. In Mark 11:23, He said, “Whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart… he shall have whatsoever he says.” Jesus was teaching that mountains obey God’s authority, and because we belong to Him, mountains also respond to our faith-filled words. The key is not how large the mountain is. The key is whether God is present and whether our faith is active.

When God appears, mountains melt. When God speaks, mountains bow. When God moves, mountains scatter. The presence of God is the greatest solution to every problem. Sometimes we focus too much on the mountain and too little on the God who controls it. But the more you focus on the Lord, the smaller your mountain becomes.

In Joshua 6, the walls of Jericho were a mountain in the minds of the Israelites. Thick. Tall. Fortified. Humanly impossible to break. But when the presence of God went with them, those walls did not need hammers or weapons. They fell flat. It teaches us that God handles mountains in extraordinary ways that defy human logic.

Some mountains melt when God sends His word. Some melt when God sends His angel. Some melt when you pray. Some melt when you worship. Some melt when you step out in obedience. But all mountains melt when God reveals His presence.

There are mountains people carry silently. The mountain of fear that stops them from rising. The mountain of guilt that keeps them from peace. The mountain of delay that attacks their progress. The mountain of cycles that repeat every year. The mountain of spiritual battles that drain their strength. But hear the Word of the Lord: these mountains cannot survive the presence of God.

There is nothing too thick for God to thin.

There is nothing too strong for God to break.

There is nothing too deep for God to reach.

There is nothing too high for God to bring down.

Before the presence of the Lord, things that looked permanent become temporary. Situations that seemed impossible become testimonies. Burdens that seemed heavy become weightless. God’s presence shifts everything.

As this truth settles in your heart, remember this: God does not remove mountains for people who walk away from Him. He removes mountains for people who invite Him in. The presence of God is the key. It is not enough to know about God. You must walk with Him. You must host His presence in your prayer life, in your decisions, in your thoughts, and in your home.
