Summary: Why do we serve the Lord? Motive is more important than any thing else.

1. It is the 11th hour

2. There are Christians standing idle. Many asleep in the harvest. 1 Corinthians 15:34

3. This is a personal invitation.

a. Go work. Matthew 21:28-31

b. Many parables of God’s work being the vineyard, the field, the harvest.

4. It is a fact each of us has a job to do in service for the Lord. Matthew 25:14-19

5. We all know we should be active in the things of God, but are we? Why are we involved? What is your motive?

6. Many serve for different reasons.

a. Duty

b. Fear, guilty if we don’t respond.

c. It’s expected of me.

d. I feel the greatest motive for being involved is love.

7. Verses that show love as the reason for involvement.

a. 1 John 4:19, 5:3

b. John 14:21, 15:11-14

8. Love was the only reason for God to be involved in redeeming lost mankind.

a. John 3:16

b. Romans 5:8

9. Love is more than something we say.

a. Love is something more than what we believe.

b. Love is something you do. Love is being involved. Love is action.

10. In Luke 10:25-37, Jesus answers a question with a parable. In doing so, He is showing us not only who to love, but how to love.

11. Two thoughts for our message

a. Who to love?

b. How to love

I. Who to Love?

1. Luke 10:30

2. Not so much a person, but motive, the condition of this man.

a. Fell among thieves.

b. Stripped of his raiment.

c. Wounded him.

d. Left him helpless.

3. This is a good picture of the condition of the world in which we live.

a. By the thieves of this world.

1) Look at our teens.

2) Look at our homes.

3) Look at our churches.

b. 1 Peter 5:8, John 10:10, their cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill and to destroy.

4. Luke 14:16-23

a. Verse 21

b. Notice the poor, the maimed, the crippled, the halt, the blind.

5. Right now, we are talking about who to love, and in each care in the bible the person was helpless unable to do anything about his condition.

6. Mark 2:2-5, sick of the palsy, paralyzed.

7. John 4:3-9, 28-29, Samaritan woman. She had 5 husband and the one is not your husband with which you are living.

8. Mark 5:1-8, 18-20, maniac of Gadara.

a. No man could tame.

b. Only Jesus could help.

9. Who are we to love? Any and all those who do not know Christ and are helpless in coming to Him.

II. How to Love

1. Luke 10:31-33

2. Notice all three men saw, they know the condition of the helpless man, but only one did something about it.

3. This tells me, not every one is going to be involved in serving Jesus.

a. Reaching the lost

b. Knowing this, I should not be disappointed when some will not serve.

4. The priest saw him. Passed by on the other side.

a. Represent the outward religious persons.

b. His life is holy because of the tings he does not do.

c. Luke 18:9-14, the Pharisee stood and prayed.

5. A Levite looked on him. Most of the time involved in the Sanhedrin, the administration of justice.

6. The Samaritan got involved. Why?

a. The Jews and the Sarmatian hated each other.

b. He did not know this man. He did not owe this man.

c. Verse 33 had compassion on him. It literally means “he loved him”

d. What was involved with the Samaritan loving?

7. Time. It takes time to love.

a. He took time out of his schedule to get involved, and he stayed involved.

b. How much time do we really give trying to reach sinners?

c. How much time do we give to teaching?

8. Money. If we love, we must give.

a. You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.

b. Verse 34, pouring in oil and wine, giving of his substance.

c. Verse 35 gave two pence. Approximately two days labor.

1) Many don’t even tithe.

2) What if each person gave two hours a week to reach the lost?

d. Verse 34, set him on his own beast. He used his transportation for the Lord. The first bus ministry.

9. The cry from the heart of our Savior is to lift up our eyes and look on the fields. Pray for the harvest.

a. The question Matthew asks, 20:6, “why stand ye hear all the day idle? It is still the question that is being asked today.

b. Why should we be involved? Love.
