Summary: The Lord's prayer is much more than a prayer guide. It shows us who the father is.

TEXT: Matthew 6:11

"Give us this day our daily bread."

THE GREAT SHEPHERD

Our father is the great shepherd. He provides all our needs. A father's duty is to provide for his family. Our father in heaven knows what we need and is careful to provide for us. It is God, "who giveth food to all flesh: for his mercy endureth for ever" (Ps 136:25). David said concerning the father: "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want" (Ps 23:1). Indeed, you will not suffer lack in Jesus name.

GOD IS ABLE TO MEET OUR NEEDS

Food (bread) is one of the basic necessities of life. There are others like: clothing, shelter, health, water, air and sleep. Our father provides for each of these basic needs. Jesus said, “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’

These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs" (Matt 6:31-32). An obedient child is well provided for by his father. God wants us - his children, to put him first by obeying his commandments and doing his will and he promised to provide all our needs. "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need" (Matt 6:33). The Lord will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus in Jesus name (Phil 4:19).

MAN SHALL NOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE

Our God does not only provide for our physical needs, he also caters for our spiritual needs. Job said: "... I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food" (Job 23:12). We need the word of God as much as we need physical food. God has given us his word (the Bible) to feed our spirit. "....Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matt 4:4). While physical food sustains the flesh, spiritual food sustains the spirit. Our father has provided both for his children. If we don't eat, we will die. Jeremiah said: "When I discovered your words, I devoured (ate) them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight,

for I bear your name, O lord God of Heaven’s Armies." The word of God will satisfy your soul with joy in Jesus life.

CAN GOD FURNISH A TABLE IN THE WILDERNESS?

The Lord provides daily for his children even in period of famine. Elijah was fed by a raven and a poor widow in the period of famine by God's divine providence. Jesus, after feeding the people with the word of life, supernaturally fed 5,000 people physically with 2 loaves of bread and 5 fishes. "Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? (Ps 78:19). Of course, God can provide even in the wilderness and the presence of enemies. He provided bread, meat, water, clothing for the Israelites in the wilderness (Deut 2:7, Neh 9:21). He will provide for you in the midst of lack in Jesus name. While others are cast down, you will be lifted up in Jesus name.

GOD PROVIDES IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES

Hear the promise of God: "The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing" (Ps 34:10). The Lord will provide for you and your family in Jesus name. Give us our daily bread O Lord, bless the works of our hands, fill us with the light of your word in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER:

Father, bless us as we do our work diligently. Let the spirit and life in your word awaken and enliven our spiritual lives. Let us not lack our daily portion of bread and your word in Jesus name.

DECREE:

God is my provider. I shall not lack any good thing.

God bless you. Shalom.
