Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Hey there, Church family! It's always a blessing to be together, exploring God's Word. Today, we're going to dive deep into 2 Timothy 3:14-17. This passage is all about the power, authority, and impact of God’s word in our lives.
Let's take a moment to read it together:
"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
The power of the Word of God is the very foundation of our faith and the cornerstone of our relationship with God. The Word of God, as we see in 2 Timothy, is not just a collection of stories, laws, and prophecies. It is the living, breathing voice of God that speaks into our lives, offering guidance, wisdom, and correction.
A source of wisdom: The passage in 2 Timothy tells us that the Holy Scriptures are able to make us wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. This wisdom is not the worldly wisdom that we often seek, but a divine wisdom that leads us to salvation. It is a wisdom that transcends human understanding and gives us insight into the very heart of God. This wisdom guides our decisions, shapes our worldview, and anchors our faith.
A tool for teaching and correcting: It is God-breathed, meaning it comes directly from God Himself. It is not a human invention or a product of cultural evolution. It is the infallible truth of God that stands firm in the shifting sands of human opinion. As such, it has the authority to teach us what is right and to correct us when we are wrong. It is a mirror that reflects our true selves, revealing areas of sin and disobedience that we need to address. It is also a compass that points us in the right direction, guiding us in the paths of righteousness.
Equips us for every good work: It is not just a book to be read, but a manual to be lived. It provides practical guidance on how to live a life that is pleasing to God. It teaches us how to love, forgive, serve, give, pray, and so much more. It equips us with the spiritual tools we need to navigate the challenges of life and to engage in the work of the Kingdom. It is through the Word of God that we are prepared and empowered to live out our faith in tangible ways.
Alive and active: It is not a dead letter, but a living word that interacts with us in a dynamic way. It speaks to us in our specific situations, offering comfort, encouragement, and direction. It convicts us of sin, challenges us to change, and inspires us to pursue a deeper relationship with God. It is a word that is as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago, because it is the word of an unchanging God.
The authority of the Word of God is a belief that the Bible is not just a collection of stories, poems, and letters, but it is the very Word of God Himself ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
