Milli Vanilli Religion Matt7:21-23

Who will enter the Kingdom of Heaven?

1. Not everyone who can say “Lord.” v21a

"Not everyone who says to me, ’Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven,

James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that--and shudder.

John 12:42-43 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; [43] for they loved praise from men more than praise from God.

John 8:30-32 Even as he spoke, many put their faith in him. [31] To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. [32] Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

2. Only those who do the Father’s Will v21b

but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

James 1:22-25 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. [23] Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror [24] and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. [25] But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does.

3. Not everyone who does many good works. v22

Many will say to me on that day, ’Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’

2 Tim. 3:3-7 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, [4] treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God-- [5] having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them. [6] They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, [7] always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth.

Conclusion: The Rejection v23

Then I will tell them plainly, ’I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Matthew 25:12 "But he replied, ’I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.’

Luke 12:9 But he who disowns me before men will be disowned before the angels of God.

Luke 13:27 "But he will reply, ’I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’
