Summary: Part 1 The Garden to the Cross: Genealogy of Christ This is not about the genealogy of Christ found in Matthew or Luke. This is about the genealogy given in the Genesis “begats.”

The Bible gives us the genealogy of Christ. It takes us from the garden to the cross. The first section of the genealogy is in the book of Genesis, chapter 5.

Yes, this is the chapter we want to skip.?Don't skip it!?It has a TON of important information.

Genesis 5?

Vs. 5 Adam lived 930 years. Died

?Vs. 8 Seth lived 912 years. Died

Vs. 11 Enos lived 905 years. Died

Vs. 14 Cainan lived 910 years. Died

Vs. 17 Mahalaleel lived 895 years. Died

Vs. 20 Jared lived 962 years. Died

Vs. 24 Enoch lived 365 years. God took him

Vs. 27 Methuselah lived 969 years. Died

Vs. 31 Lamech lived 777 years. Died

Vs. 7:11 Noah was 600 years old when the flood came. Saved

Death is the result of sin. Sorrow is the result of sin. Losing loved ones is the result of sin.

Add up the number of years to the flood

Verse 3 --- 130 yrs ---Age of Adam when he begat Seth

Verse 6 --- 105 yrs ---Age of Seth when he begat Enos

Verse 9 --- 90 yrs --- Age of Enos when he begat Cainan

Verse 12 --- 70 yrs --- Age of Cainan when he begat Mahalaleel

Verse 15 --- 65 yrs --- Age of Mahalaleel when he begat Jared

Verse 18 --162 yrs --- Age of Jared when he begat Enoch

Verse 21 -- 65 yrs --- Age of Enoch when he begat Methuselah

Verse 25 - 187 yrs ---Age of Methuselah when he begat Lamech

Verse 28 - 182 yrs --- Age of Lamech when he begat Noah

Vs. 7:11 --- 600 yrs --- Age of Noah at the time of the flood

Total ------1656 yrs --- From the time Adam and Eve left the garden until the flood

Vs. 32 Noah was 500 years old when he begat his sons – Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Since Adam lived to be 930, he was alive until Noah's father (Lamech) was 56 years old.

Are the men mentioned above the first born? No, example Seth

This is the lineage of Noah, and the lineage of Jesus.

All of these names are listed in Luke 3:36-38 in the genealogy of Jesus.

Message of honoring our parents:

Lamech lived to be 777 years old (vs. 31)

Begat Noah at -182 yrs of age

Lived 595 more years

Noah was 600 years old when the flood came.

Lamech (Noah's father) died 5 years before the flood.

Methuselah was Noah's grandfather. He lived to be 969 years old (vs. 27)

Begat Lamech at - 187 yrs of age

Lamech begat Noah at 182 yrs of age

Methuselah lived 600 more years

And he died

Noah was 600 years old when the flood came.

Methuselah (Noah's grandfather) died the year of the flood.

Was Lamech a righteous man? Was Methuselah a righteous man?

Lamech and Methuselah were both alive when the Bible said only Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

Genesis 6:9 Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and walked with God. Noah was 600 years old when the flood came. Methuselah died the year of the flood.

Methuselah was Noah's grandfather. It would not have followed God's commandment to honor your father if Noah had left any of his patriarchs to die in the flood. Noah didn't have to make that decision. God's timing for the flood was planned and perfect.

Billions of years?

No, billions of years allows for time for man to evolve from water on rocks.

But we know the truth.

In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)

The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground,

and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;

and man became a living soul. (Genesis 2:7)

Adam to Noah - 1656 yrs

Noah to Abraham - 301 yrs (see Genealogy Noah to Abraham or Genesis 11)

So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations,

from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations,

and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations. (Matthew 1:17)

From Christ to Present - 2021 years

This doesn't equate to billions of years.

Knowing this first:

that scoffers will come in the last days,

...this they willfully forget:

that by the word of God the heavens were of old,

and the earth standing out of water and in the water,

by which the world that then existed perished,

being flooded with water. (2 Peter 3:3,5-6)

The scoffers willfully/intentionally forget what?

Creation and the flood.
