Contributed by Wilson Oshorakpor on Mar 12, 2022 (message contributor)
Summary: Our days on earth are limited, numbered on average at 70 years. Our thoughts, actions and words are weighed every day. When our days are finished, we shall be held accountable for all our deeds. Where will you be divided - the kingdom of light or darkness?
TEXT: DANIEL 5:25-28 (NIV)
“This is the inscription that was written: mene, mene, tekel, parsin. Here is what these words mean: “Mene: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end. Tekel: You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting. Peres: Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians."
FINGERS WITHOUT HANDS
The day fingers without hands wrote on King Belshazzar's wall caused him so much fright his knees buckled. No one could interpret the writing until Daniel showed up. God's message was not palatable to the King and his empire. He died that night. The same pride that caused his father to lose his sanity for 7 years, led to his death and Babylon's demise as an empire.
Mene, mene, tekel, parsin means: your days are numbered and finished. You have been weighed and found wanting. You kingdom is taken away and given to another. The judgment was dire and the execution was swift. The message was not only for King Belshazzar but apply's to all humanity.
MENA, MENA
Our days are numbered from birth (Job 14:5). God has given us 70 years, on average, to live on earth (Ps 90:10). Within our numbered days, we have to fulfil God's purpose. We finish our course at death and the life we live while on earth determine our place in eternity. We need to ask God to "... teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom" (Ps 90:12). We need divine wisdom to use our time on earth profitably. Jesus said: "I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work" (John 9:4). The Lord will grant you wisdom to use your days profitably for his purpose in Jesus name.
TEKEL
Weighed and found wanting. Our words, actions and thoughts are being weighed and measured, every day. At the end of time, when our days are finished at death, we will be held accountable for all our words, thoughts and actions. "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account" (Heb 4:13 NIV). God is a righteous judge and will determine who is found wanting or worthy, "...as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Heb 9:27). The mercy of God will count you worthy on the day of accountability in Jesus name.
PARSIN:
Your kingdom is divided and given to another. Whoever is found wanting, an eternity of wailing and gnashing of teeth will be divided to that person and his/her part in heaven is lost forever. The fellow that is found worthy will inherit the kingdom of light and spend eternity walking in streets of gold where there shall be no weeping, hunger or thirst. Where will your portion be? Will you be divided unto the portion of goats or the portion of sheep?
"And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:...Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:" (Matt 25:32-34, 41). Your place in God's kingdom will not be taken from you in Jesus name.
MENA, MENA, TEKEL, PARSIN
Mene, mene, tekel, parsin. The finger of God is and will continue to write on the walls of people's life. Your days are numbered from birth, your lifestyle is being weighed everyday and you will be held accountable. When the lots are divided, where will you fall?
Ananias and Sapphira's days were numbered and cut short by sin. They were weighed and found wanting. Their judgment was swift. They lost their portion in the kingdom of light. You have time to repent. Why not accept Jesus today and receive wisdom to number your days.
PRAYER:
Father, my portion is with the kingdom of light, separate me from darkness by your mighty power in Jesus name.
CONFESSION:
I am called out of darkness into Christ's marvelous light.
God bless you. Shalom.
