Meeting God In The Backside Of Your Wilderness

Summary: God comes near in our desert experiences
Ex 3:1-5, 12; 18:5
verse 1 - “... he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Mt. Horeb.”
I) Explain Text – vs 2-5
A) We talk about deserts, wildernesses, valleys, mountains in our experiences.
B) Deserts, wilderness, valleys - scarey places (Give personal examples)
II) Moses discovered the Mountain of God on the backside of the desert
A) Horeb / Sinai -- Great experiences for Moses (Voice of God / Miracles / Manifestations of God)
B) Horeb became the Mt of God because God was there. Not because of the place, but who was there
1) Its the desert places where God is -- where God speaks -- I AM (Job 23:8-10)
a) Psalm 23:4 – Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me
b) S of S 2:1 – I am the rose of sharon, and the lily of the valleys
c) 1 Kgs 20:28 – (Benhadad – King of Syria / Ahab – King of Israel) Because the Syrians have Said, The Lord is God of the hills, but He is not God of the valeys
d) Ps 121:1-2 – (Responsive reading) I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
2) "Go show John again" – Jesus didn’t deliver him, He assured Him
3) Jesus constrained His deciples to get in the boat – He turned His back and walked away
C) Abraham walked to the backside of the desert -- Moriah
D) Jesus walked to the backside of desert -- Calvary
III) Backside of deserts will give you a Mountain of God experience if you wont stop
A) A rod ( Ex 4:2) became the rod of God (Ex 4:20)
B) The backside of the desert becomes the Mount of God
