Summary: David's life was an example of how to turn shame around
I. God
Psalm 69:6 NIV
6 Lord, the Lord Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel, may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me.
The first line of Psalm 69:6 has 3 names of God
Lord - adon. Master
LORD - Jehovah - the personal God, distinguished from among other gods.
Almighty - SHADDAI, God’s name that describes him for this situation.
II. The People
There are people who are hoping in the Lord God Almighty.
Hope - “wait on”
Disgraced - “ashamed”
Which people? Israel and the world
III. Me
The cause of people’s shame
IV. God
God of Israel - Elohim, the God that is peculiar to Israel
V. The People
The ones who “seek”
wanting to know, do
VI. Me
The cause of people’s “shame” - humiliated, ashamed,
Questions:
How was David potentially the cause of shame and disgrace to the people who were seeking God?
David’s sin had become a public disgrace
Those who would like to shame someone will always find the sins of those we associate with and try to apply them to us.
David’s concern is that people wouldn’t lose hope because of him, that wouldn’t stop seeking after God because of him.
David’s concern should be our concern too:
People will try to associate us with our parents, siblings, family members, co-workers, classmates, friends. people will point out the deficiencies of these people and use them to discourage us. Discourage us from seeking God and hoping in God because we’re just like “David”.
David is an example of a man of God who was
passionate about God, God raised him up, David did great things for God (Battle Scars)David fell from grace (great sins), (Moral scars)Humble enough to admit his mistakes, was redeemable, Turned his life around and passionately pursued God.
