This sermon explores Martha's faith in Jesus as the resurrection and life, encouraging us to trust God amidst doubts and fears, and embrace His promise of resurrection.
Good morning, beloved friends. We gather here today, not as mere spectators, but as active participants in the grand narrative of faith. We are united by a shared hope, a common purpose, and a mutual love for our Lord Jesus Christ. Today, we turn our hearts and minds to the eleventh chapter of John's gospel, verses seventeen to twenty-seven. We stand on the brink of a profound revelation, an encounter with the Divine that has the power to transform our understanding and deepen our faith.
Now, let's listen to the Word of God, as it is written in the Gospel according to John. "On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. Now Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem, and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home. 'Lord,' Martha said to Jesus, 'if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.' Jesus said to her, 'Your brother will rise again.' Martha answered, 'I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.' Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?' 'Yes, Lord,' she told him, 'I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.'"
In this passage, we encounter a woman of faith wrestling with loss and hope, a woman named Martha. Her story is our story. Her questions are our questions. Her faith is a mirror in which we see our own faith reflected.
The great preacher Charles Spurgeon once said, "Faith goes up the stairs that love has built and looks out the windows which hope has opened." Today, we will stand with Martha on those stairs, look out those windows, and see what she saw. We will witness her moment with the Messiah, the manifestation of her faith, and the Master's message about mortality and resurrection.
In the heart of this narrative, we find Martha, a woman of faith, in a moment of deep sorrow and confusion ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
