I. EXORDIUM:
Are you a bad weed?
II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:
Believer
III. OBJECTIVES:
To show GOD's patience and love for us to give us His Salvation. It's really a gift of Grace.
IV. TEXT:
2 Chronicles 33:13 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
And when he prayed, the Lord listened to him and was moved by his request. So the Lord brought Manasseh back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh finally realized that the Lord alone is God!
V. THESIS:
Gift of Grace is to be received with gratitude in our hearts.
VI. TITLE:
Manasseh knew GOD - A character study of King Manasseh
VII. EXPLICATION:
A. Author: uncertain
B. Purpose: Sequel to 1 Chronicles and a supplement to book of 1 and 2 Kings.
C. Distinctive Feature: spiritual element
VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. He had a knowledge of GOD
"And when he prayed, the Lord listened to him"
He would not call on GOD somehow if Manasseh doesn't know GOD. Imagine he ruled 55 years for GOD is patient with him so he can be saved. We are saved because we have a knowledge of the Holy One and we know He's the Only One who can saved us from our sins.
2 Chronicles 33:1 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years.
2 Timothy 1:12 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.
2 Corinthians 5:1 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands.
Job 19:25 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
“But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last.
Romans 8:28 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
B. He realized that the LORD alone is GOD
"Then Manasseh finally realized that the Lord alone is God! "
Humility then knowledge. You can't learn the knowledge about GOD if you don't come at the end of yourself. And we accept grace if we're humble in approaching GOD.
James 4:6 (Amplified Bible)
But He gives us more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency and all others fully). That is why He says, God sets Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace [continually] to the lowly (those who are humble enough to receive it).
Romans 2:4 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?
2 Corinthians 5:10 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.
2 Peter 3:9 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.
There's a saying that goes like "bad weeds die old." is somehow true because GOD is giving us His chances and His patience for us to be saved. The greatest tragedy that could happen to a human is not death, but life without GOD.
Matthew 16:26 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
Mark 8:36-37 (New International Version)
What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?
Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
IX. CONCLUSION:
We are given short or long life to give, what matters most is that if we used that life in service to GOD.
