I believe that C.S. Lewis hits the nail on the head… Man has a need a need to be alive
Genesis 2:17 (KJV)
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Adam and Eve died spiritually after they ate the fruit of the tree which God told them not to eat. Adam and Eve were formed in the image of God, and after the fall Adams children were formed in his image with the sinful nature we have all been born spiritually dead.

1 Cor. 6:18-20 (KJV)
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. [19] What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? [20] For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Frank Saintria has a sung that speaks about many peoples lives the words in the chorus said, “Like Frankie said, “I did it my way”
