What would you say was your greatest possession?

1. Wife wrecked the car; first reaction.

2. House catching on fire; what are the things you get out.

3. Right now, if you were to make a list, how would it read?

a. Money, land, health, family

b. Car, truck, guns, etc.

4. How many would say the word of God, the bible, or the promises of God?

5. People must feel secure.

a. Something to hold onto.

b. Something to rest in or trust in.

6. All people put their trust in something.

a. Time and circumstances can change all of these things.

b. Nothing or no one can change the word of God.

c. Our confidence should rest in the word of God and nothing else.

I. What About the Person Who does not Believe?

1. He is an easy prey for Satan’s forces.

a. Ephesians 6:1-3

b. There is a real Devil, whether you believe it or not.

1) 1 Peter 5:8

2) Be on guard

c. John 10:10

2. Without the word of God, he is exempt from the help of God.

a. Without the word of God, no help:

1) Hebrews 4:12

2) Jeremiah 23:29

3) 1 Peter 1:23

4) James 1:23-25

5) 1 Peter 2:2

6) God only works through his word!

a) He convicts. Acts 2:37

b) He brings faith. Romans 10:17

c) He brings cleaning. 2 Corinthians 7:1

d) He assures. 1 John 5:13

e) He comforts. 1 Thessalonians 4:18

3. Without the word of God, it leaves a person to his own efforts.

a. In salvation.

b. In helpless situations.

c. In the time of sorrow.

II. Man’s Greatest Possessions are the Promises of God

1. Notice, not great but exceeding great.

2. Great means greatest or very great.

3. Precious means costly or honored, esteemed.

4. Why are these promises so precious? Because of their:

a. Source

1) It is God who makes the promise, not man.

2) Titus 1:2; numbers 23:19

3) He is able to do what he says! 1 Kings 8:56

4) He is all powerful, all knowing.

5) God's sovereignty, righteousness, holiness, justice, Anne mercy all depend upon Him keeping His word. Luke 21:33; Matthew 5:18

6) God keeps his promises, both to the saved and the lost.

b. Size

1) Exceeding great. We measure the size of a promise by the benefits it offers or bestows.

2) Not only redemption, but eternal redemption. Hebrews 9:12

3) Not only life, but abundant life. John 10:10

4) Not only peace, but perfect peace. Philippians 4:7

c. Sufficiency

1) The promises of God cover every human need for time and eternity. Philippians 4:19

2) What is your need?

a) Food; Psalm 34:10

b) Clothing; Matthew 6:25, 30, 32

c) Guidance; Psalm 73:24, Isaiah 30:21

d) Wisdom; Proverbs 16:3, James 1:5

a) Rest; Matthew 11:28

b) Forgiveness; Isaiah 55:7, Acts 13: 38

c) Security; John 10:27-29

d) Your case is different; Matthew 7:11

d. The Simplicity

1) Easy to find, all through the Bible.

2) Easy to understand, even a child can understand them.

3) Easy to claim. John 6:37, Romans 8:28

4) Easy to prove. Use the T&P method. tested and proven; Malachi 3:10

5) 2 Corinthians 1:20. all of these promises are in Jesus. Do you know him? Do you trust him? Are you serving him?
