Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
In today's world, the church appears to be busy, but is it truly fulfilling God's mission? Are we, as a church, actively 'occupying' or merely resting on past achievements while waiting for the Lord's return? This sermon explores these questions and calls for a more proactive approach to our faith.
When we look at the modern church, we see that it is busy as a whole. But are we truly accomplishing what God has given us? Is the church actively occupying, or are we simply resting on past achievements and waiting for the Lord's return?
In Luke 19:13, Jesus called his ten servants, gave them ten pounds, and instructed them to "occupy till I come." In other words, he told them to engage in trade and make their money grow. Similarly, the church should not be stagnant but actively involved in fulfilling the purposes God has given us. We must stay busy with what God has entrusted to us.
The Greek word used for "occupy" in this passage is "pragmateuomai," which means to busy oneself with trade or to walk in a certain way of living. As Christians, we are called to live purposefully and actively pursue the work God has assigned to us.
Jesus warned the church in Revelation 3:16 about being lukewarm. He expressed his displeasure with those who were neither hot nor cold, stating that he would spit them out of his mouth. This admonition serves as a reminder that we cannot afford to be complacent or indifferent in our faith. In these last days, many will fall away from the faith due to various challenges and deceptions orchestrated by Satan.
Matthew 24:10-12 further warns us that in the end times, people will be offended, betray one another, and hate one another. False prophets will rise up and deceive many, and lawlessness will abound, causing the love of many to grow cold. These are the signs of the times we are living in.
However, amidst these challenges, we have been called to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth. We have been given unique abilities, talents, and anointing to make a difference. We must not allow regrets or past mistakes to hold us back. When we repent and turn back to God, He forgives us and restores us. We must press forward, forgetting what lies behind and reaching for what lies ahead.
Regret can be a powerful tool of the enemy. Satan loves to remind us of our failures and keep us stuck in the past. But we must remember that God has called us before the foundation of the world, and His calling and gifts are irrevocable. We have a purpose, and it's time to put the past behind us and move forward with confidence.
As Christians, we need to examine whether we are truly occupying the land or just going through the motions. Are we making a lasting impact on society? Are we influencing every aspect of culture, spiritually, socially, and economically? True occupation means positively changing society from the inside out, not just converting individuals but transforming entire communities.
To accomplish this, we need Christians in every area of society – bankers, teachers, lawyers, judges, politicians, and more. We should be at the top and scattered throughout every sector, using our God-given abilities and anointing to bring about godly influence. By changing the top areas within society and teaching godly principles alongside laws, we can create lasting change that will endure for generations.
It's time for us to think bigger and work together as the body of Christ. We must break down man-made barriers and unite in our purpose. A divided kingdom cannot stand, so let us come together and occupy every sphere of society with the love and truth of Christ.
If you feel that your calling is not as a preacher or minister, know that your role is just as important. Whether you are a businessperson, politician, banker, or teacher, you have a vital part to play in God's plan. We all have a God-given place, and it will take all of us working together to bring about the kind of permanent change that can transform nations.
Let us rise up and occupy until He comes. Let us fulfill our God-given destiny and be the catalyst for revival and the ushering in of the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. With God on our side, who can be against us? Together, we can make a lasting impact and leave a legacy that will endure for generations to come.
