This sermon introduction focuses on the importance of making a key shift in our Christian lives by partnering with the Holy Spirit, using the story of the birth of Jesus as told in Luke 1:26-38 as a reference.
As we wrap up this four week series on following Jesus, I want to turn our attention to a key part of our Christianity. Because of the world that we live in, we have to lean into this key shift that we all must make. Without it, we don’t live the full and fulfilled life that Jesus has for us. Let’s open this up by reading several verses from Luke surrounding the birth of Jesus.
As we engage this scripture, there’s a lot packed into it and so much we can draw out. But, the primary thing that I want to highlight is that for Jesus to enter the earth and for God’s purpose to be fulfilled, a young woman is asked to inconvenience her life in a big way. Following Jesus isn’t just about creating space in your schedule to go to church, it’s about creating space in your life for the Holy Spirit to work. The work that Jesus does in our lives begins with the internal and personal transformation. It’s a fun season as so much is growing and developing. It’s kinda like when a baby is born, they do a lot of growth in those younger weeks and months and so much change is going on. But, as a child grows, as parents you begin to show them how to move from just being a consumer to being a contributor.
Here’s my question to you today; What could God do if we created space for Him in our lives? While no one else will have to do what Mary did in a physical sense of carrying Jesus, God’s still looking for people to carry this message! To carry the Gospel to the world that is around you! The spread of the good news that God loves us and that we can have forgiveness for our sins through Jesus, gets out to the world because those of us that have been impacted and reached are now willing and available to carry the message! ...
