Summary: A believer without fire is like a lamp without oil, a car without fuel, or a soldier without weapons. Your spiritual fire is what keeps you alive and effective in a hostile world. The instruction in Leviticus 6:13 is still valid today: your fire must never go out.

INTRODUCTION:

Spiritual fire refers to the passion, zeal, and burning desire for God and His kingdom. It symbolises divine energy, fervency in the spirit, and a life ablaze with the power and presence of the Holy Ghost. Leviticus 6:13 instructs that the fire on the altar must be kept burning—it must never go out. This is a divine command, not a suggestion.

Every believer is called to maintain their spiritual fire. The fire of God is what sustains your prayer life, your devotion, your faith, and your service in the kingdom. A Christian who has lost their spiritual fire becomes lukewarm, ineffective, and vulnerable to sin and satanic attacks.

The world is full of distractions and pressures that want to quench the fire in your soul. But you must make a deliberate effort daily to keep the flames alive through prayer, the Word, fellowship, and obedience to the Holy Spirit.

1. WHY YOU MUST MAINTAIN SPIRITUAL FIRE

Spiritual fire is essential for victorious and impactful Christian living.

a) Fire represents God’s presence (Exodus 3:2):

Where there is fire, there is divine activity. God reveals Himself through fire.

b) Fire empowers effective service (Acts 1:8):

Without spiritual fire, ministry becomes mechanical and fruitless.

c) Fire protects from spiritual coldness (Revelation 3:15-16):

When your fire goes out, lukewarmness sets in and God becomes displeased.

d) Fire keeps you sensitive and alert (Matthew 25:8):

The foolish virgins lost their oil and their lamps went out—they missed the bridegroom.

Biblical Example: Elijah called down fire from heaven on Mount Carmel because he carried the fire of God within (1 Kings 18:38).

2. ENEMIES THAT QUENCH SPIRITUAL FIRE

Many forces seek to extinguish your passion for God.

a) Sin and compromise (Isaiah 59:2):

Sin disconnects you from God and weakens spiritual energy.

b) Distractions and worldly cares (Mark 4:19):

When you focus more on the world than the Word, your fire dims.

c) Spiritual laziness (Proverbs 24:30-31):

Neglecting prayer, study, and fellowship is a sure way to lose your fire.

d) Negative associations (1 Corinthians 15:33):

Wrong company can corrupt your fire and pull you into coldness.

Biblical Example: Samson’s fire was quenched by compromise with Delilah, and he lost his strength (Judges 16:19-20).

3. HOW TO KEEP YOUR SPIRITUAL FIRE BURNING

You must be intentional and consistent in maintaining the fire.

a) Stay constantly in prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17):

Prayer is the fuel that keeps the fire alive.

b) Feed on God’s Word daily (Jeremiah 20:9):

The Word of God ignites and sustains holy fire in your soul.

c) Stir up the gift within you (2 Timothy 1:6):

You must fan the flames by stepping out in faith and using your spiritual gifts.

d) Fellowship with fire carriers (Hebrews 10:25):

Being around people who are spiritually hot can rekindle your own fire.

Biblical Example: The disciples maintained spiritual fire through prayer, fellowship, and the Word, and they turned the world upside down (Acts 2:42-47).

4. REWARDS OF MAINTAINING SPIRITUAL FIRE

Spiritual fire carries spiritual benefits both now and eternally.

a) Closer intimacy with God (James 4:8):

The more you burn for Him, the more of Him you experience.

b) Constant victory over the enemy (Luke 10:19):

Fire keeps demons at bay and sustains your spiritual authority.

c) Fresh revelations and divine guidance (Psalm 25:14):

A burning heart is fertile ground for hearing from God.

d) Effective soul-winning and fruitfulness (John 15:8):

A life on fire attracts others and bears lasting fruits.

Biblical Example: Jesus Christ lived a life of divine fire and fulfilled His mission with power and precision (John 4:34, Acts 10:38).

CONCLUSION:

A believer without fire is like a lamp without oil, a car without fuel, or a soldier without weapons. Your spiritual fire is what keeps you alive and effective in a hostile world. The instruction in Leviticus 6:13 is still valid today: your fire must never go out.

Make it a daily pursuit to remain fervent, focused, and full of the Holy Ghost. Refuse to allow coldness, compromise, or distractions to quench the flame. Let the fire on your altar continue to burn brightly, bringing glory to God and power to your walk.
