Summary: Working in the midst of people who respect, admire, appreciate, like and love you is always great; however, the challenge is to survive and serve people who just don’t know you at all, who mock you, despise you and criticize you.

Made of different material

Exodus 1:8 “Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt.”(NIV)

“New king, to whom Joseph meant nothing”, these words jolted me today! God calls you to work in the midst of people and do good for those who don’t care two hoots about you nor like you. There are times, I run behind/chase people who run fast away from me! I’m called to do this! This devotion is not to garner any sympathy but to strengthen you’ll in Christ! We all got to tread through a path where you mean nothing to people or they know nothing about you. Period. You can check the scripture above, which says the same. The king who knew the goodness and faithfulness of Joseph was no more, so the people of Israel had no respect in the eyes of the new king, so he started harassing them. The new king did not know that they were children of the True God, he did not know the great things Joseph did for Egypt, how he saved the people from famine, therefore he planned to totally wipe them out.

Working in the midst of people who respect, admire, appreciate, like and love you is always great; however, the challenge is to survive and serve people who just don’t know you at all, who mock you, despise you and criticize you. I’m sure this is going to bless someone out there! Amen. Transition is tough so we need grit, mettle and determination to stay firm and steady in a new environment. Your response would reveal if you are a Warrior or a coward or pacifist. Anybody listening to me?

When we relocated to the new city Hyderabad, people in the neighborhood thought, ‘ why did these Tamilians come here’. When I went to visit a neighbor staying opposite our house, she introduced me to her family right in front of me like this, ”they are tamilians who know only tamil and no other language.’ An officer in the education department frankly told on my face,” why should you start a free school in a city where you don’t know the local language, we have enough Government schools here’. I just gave him a silly smile but was breaking on the inside; however, I was made up of different material like ‘faith, confidence, passion for Jesus, commitment’ so I was not going to buckle down to pressure. Each time I took the big file that contained all the documents for starting a new school into the cabin of an officer, I was not encouraged or treated well. Cold water was thrown on our project but I kept going…steady and strong. ( Check HERE to view our ABIDE SCHOOL students)

You don’t need 1000 people to sing praises for you, all you need is commitment, faith and trust in your God who has never ever left your side and keep moving forward. In the midst of all this CHAOS, CONFUSION, DISORDER AND HATRED, a group of women called midwives who feared God, did not do as the king of Egypt had commanded them, but let the boys live. Ha…ha… just dance for God, these midwives were made of different materials…….

When you move abroad for a new foreign assignment, hear me say this, may be the country is new, food, culture is different, your mom may not be there to pamper you but God is there with you! Fear not! You need to be made up of different material…..Marriage, new job are all challenges where you face new people; however, equip yourself with prayer and the Word of God and emerge bold. You need to be made up of different material….
