Summary: Strangely enough, this four-letter word carries a lot of weight in every situation through many generations. What love may mean to you may not mean the same as I see it but everybody wants to know what love is.

Our subject from the Scripture that was in your hearing, is a question I would like to ask. A question we all should ask ourselves when it comes to the subject we will speak on and try through God’s word find a conclusion. I would like to speak to you through the Holy Spirit’s help, “LOVE’S IN NEED OF LOVE.”

Strangely enough, this four-letter word carries a lot of weight in every situation through many generations. What love may mean to you may not mean the same as I see it but everybody wants to know what love is.

This scripture, is read especially in numerous weddings everywhere. A staple to what love supposes to be and what love is not.

Here’s what love is and not....

A) PATIENT AND KIND. Paul in Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Poet Maya Angelou once said, “I've learned that people will forget what you said,

people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” I must confess, I need to have more patience towards things and sometimes people. I do lose my cool at times but I need to learn how to be patience and learn how to love in spite of all my short comings. Love is patient and kind.

Paul is reminding us not to be anxious for nothing but when you find yourself anxious, pray. Love is patient and kind. Not only love is patient and kind, love is not...

B) IT DOES NOT ENVY. Envy is the “green-eyed monster”. The definition of envy is a feeling of discontent or covetousness with regard to another's advantages, success, possessions, etc. an object of such feeling: Her intelligence made her the envy of her classmates. Obsolete, ill will. I am in agreement with Malcolm X of what his thoughts on envy, “Envy blinds men and makes men it impossible for them to think clearly”. Proverbs 23:17 tells us, “Do not let your heart envy sinners, but live in the fear of the Lord always”. Envy is a dangerous thing.

C)LOVE DOESN’T BOAST AND NOT PROUD. Proverbs 16:18 makes it very clear that, “Pride goeth destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall”. Remember Lucifer? He gotten too big for his britches and you know what happened after that. Pride is not a good thing when it comes to love.

D) NOT DISHONOR OTHERS. Dishonor has many meanings. One meaning suggest it is a state of disgrace. Another one suggests it bring shame or disgrace on. There is another one that it is the state of having lost the esteem of others. One more meaning that says it is a person of integrity who prefer death to dishonor. Love does not dishonor or shame another person or persons; that is NOT love at all. If you are going to dishonor another person and call it love, then you sadly mistaken. So, what does the Bible says about it:

“When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom” Proverbs 11:2. And here is one more from the Word of God suggest, “A fool’s anger is known at once, but a prudent man conceals dishonor” Proverbs 12:16.

E) NOT A SELF-SEEKER. Love is never haughty or selfish or rude. D.L. Moody once said, “God sends no one away empty except those who are full of themselves.” Paul tells us the following, “But for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury” Romans 2:8 ESV. Love is not rude because the Scripture tells us “Anyone who does not love not God because god is love” 1 John 4:8.

F) NOT ANGRY BUT FORGIVING. Love is never to be angry or angered at one another but should be more patient and not quickly angry that offends others but should show patience, understanding and forgiveness.

G) DOES NOT DELIGHT IN EVIL. One thing is for sure, that there is nothing evil about love because it doesn’t find comfort in negative situations and yes, bad company.

F) PROTECTS AND SERVES. When my brother Vinson joined the Brunswick Police Department some years ago, he was sworn to protect and serve as a police officer at the best of his ability. As a child of God, we are to protect and serve those who are near you and around you. Love protects serving others with trust, hope and preserves

G) LOVE NEVER FAILS. God’s love never, ever fails because it is eternal, divine and will never cease. God is love first and foremost.

A writer who became an inspiration for me said something about love that can be true today, “Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit.” “'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.” Dr. Seuss. I think Dr. Seuss pointed out the essences of what love can be even a world that’s messed up.
