Reading: Leviticus 19:9-18
Text: Luke 10:25-37
INTRODUCTION
Illustrate: Who is my neighbor? Luke 10:25
I. KEYS TO LOVING OUR NEIGHBORS
A. Loving Our Neighbor – Is Greater Than Sacrifices
1. Mark 12:28-34
2. So Samuel said: “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. 1 Samuel 15:22
3. For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings. Hosea 6:5
B. Loving Our Neighbor - Does No Harm but Seeks to Do Good
1. Romans 13:8-10
2. We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification. Romans 15:1-2
3. Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in the power of your hand to do so. Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come back, And tomorrow I will give it,” When you have it with you. Do not devise evil against your neighbor, For he dwells by you for safety’s sake. Do not strive with a man without cause, If he has done you no harm. Do not envy the oppressor, And choose none of his ways; For the perverse person is an abomination to the LORD, But His secret counsel is with the upright. Proverbs 3:27-32
4. Romans 13:11-14
C. Loving Our Neighbor - Does Not Lie
1. Therefore, laying aside falsehood, Speak Truth Each One Of You With His Neighbor, for we are members of one another. Ephesians 4:25
2. ‘These are the things which you should do: speak the truth to one another; judge with truth and judgment for peace in your gates. ‘Also let none of you devise evil in your heart against another, and do not love perjury; for all these are what I hate,’ declares the LORD.” Zechariah 8:16-17
3. but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, Ephesians 4:15
D. Loving Our Neighbor - Serves One Another
1. For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:13-14
2. Philippians 2:1-8
E. Loving Our Neighbor - Does Not Seek to Judge:
1. James 2:1-9
2. Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it. 12There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor? James 4:11
3. “I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me John 5:30
4. “If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. “He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day. John 12:47-48
