Summary: …And now, as if that's not enough, Jesus is instructing us to take it a step further and love our enemies.
As believers, we have been given laws and commandments to live by and obey. We have been instructed to love the Lord our God and to love our neighbor. Despite our best efforts, we still struggle to love our neighbor. And now, as if that's not enough, Jesus is instructing us to take it a step further and love our enemies.
Today I bring my sermon titled: Love your Enemies
From our first scripture Genesis 45:3-11, 15 There was a young man called Joseph who was deeply loved by his father, and that love which fueled the jealousy of his older brothers. One day Joseph shared his dream with his brothers, telling them that he would be a great leader… they conspired against him.
The bible say they said him into slavery. But little did they know God was with Joseph even in the midst of hardship and slavery.
Church listen! God is with you, He is with you in all things.. In difficult moment He still with us
Joseph became one of the most powerful men in Egypt and his brothers were struggling to survive, because there were famine in the Land those days. They decided to travel to Egypt in search of food, unaware that the brother they had betrayed would soon be standing before them, holding the power to save or destroy. Instead of destroying or taken revenge of them, he said: verse 5 …And no do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.
Joseph’s enemies were his OWN BROTHERS!!
Who is your enemy? Jesus is saying to us to love them, to do good to those who hate you, to bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
From 1 Corinthians 15:42-50. The Bible ensured us that believers should look forward to the resurrection and transformation because of price Jesus paid on the cross for us. We will receive spiritual bodies, free from decay and death and live eternally with CHRIST.
God has a plan to bring good out of difficult circumstances, to bring imperishable out of perishable, to bring power out of weakness, to give us eternal life out of death.
There will be restoration, there will be transformation, and there will be resurrection!
From Luke 6:27-38: My anchor text is from the verse 35 But love your enemies and do good , give and expecting nothing is return and your reward will be great and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.
How can we love our enemies? How do we keep these divine Commandment?
1. But the help of the Holy Spirit
2. Do good to those who hate you
3. Bless those cursing you
4. Pray for those who are insulting us
5. Be patient and Kind
God’s law never required us to hate our enemies. Nevertheless, We should PRAY without ceasing… We should WATCH and PRAY… We should put on the Armor of God ….We should be Wise as serpents and Harmless as doves.
To love your enemies does not mean approving of their wrong conduct, you can love a person without approving of his wrong conduct. Even Jesus condemned violence but prayed for those who executed Him.
Love your God , Love your neighbor and Love your enemies!!
Amen!
