Love That Moves Us
Contributed by Jeffrey Sims on Aug 15, 2025 (message contributor)
Summary: The Love that we are called to have for others should move us to carry out The Great Commision.. Love should be the driving force behind our evangelism
When we look at The Greatest Commandment—loving God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and loving our neighbor as ourselves. We begin to realize that love isn’t just something we feel or believe—it’s something we do.
Imagine if a firefighter saw a house burning but didn’t run in to help. He knows there’s danger, he has the training, but he stands still. It would be unthinkable! In the same way, if we truly love God and love others, we can’t stand still—we must take action and that’s what Jesus calls us to do in The Great Commission. Love compels us to go, to serve, to share, and to make disciples.
Love Moves Us to GO
Matthew 28:19 says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…”
Jesus didn’t say “sit and wait” or “hope people come to you.” He said go! Love doesn’t sit still; it moves.
When a parent loses a child in a crowded place. They don’t just stand there hoping the child will return. They get moving — they search, they call out, they do whatever it takes to bring their child home.
That’s the heart of God. He loves the world so much that He sent Jesus to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10). Now, He calls us to go, so that we can bring others into His love.
Where is God calling you to go? It doesn’t have to be across the world — it may be just across the street, or to your workplace, or maybe even to your own family.
Love Moves Us to TEACH
Matthew 28:20 says, “Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”
Making disciples isn’t just about inviting people to church…it’s about walking with them, showing them how to follow Jesus. Love doesn’t just introduce someone to Christ and leave them alone—it nurtures and teaches.
A coach doesn’t just hand new players a playbook and say, “Good luck.” They teach them , guide them, and encourage them every step of the way.
The same holds true in discipleship. Love means investing in others, teaching them, encouraging them, and helping them grow in faith.
Who can you think of in your life that you can invest in spiritually? Maybe it’s a new believer, or a younger Christian, or maybe it’s even your own children.
Love Moves Us with HIS PRESENCE
Jesus finishes His commission with a promise: “…And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
We don’t go alone. Jesus doesn’t send us out without His power, His presence, and His Spirit. Love moves us forward, but His presence keeps us strong.
A child learning to ride a bike may feel scared at first. But as long as they know a loving parent is holding on, they keep going. Jesus is holding on to us… guiding us, strengthening us, and walking with us as we step out in faith.
Are there fears holding you back from sharing your faith? Shouldn't knowing Jesus is with you change that?
Love Goes Beyond
Love is not passive—it moves us to action. If we truly love God and love others, we will live out the Great Commission.
This Week: Step out of your comfort zone and have a spiritual conversation with someone. Pray and ask God where He is calling you to go and who He is calling you to teach.
The Greatest Commandment calls us to love... The Great Commission calls us to act on that love.
Imagine what would happen if we fully embraced this call. Families would be changed, communities would be transformed, and the world would see the love of Jesus through us.
Let’s not just know love … let’s show love.
