Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
As disciples, we are called to serve others with love, following the example set by Jesus. This service begins in our families, extends to our communities, and impacts the world.
Today, we're going to talk about serving others. You know, like helping out at home, at school, or in our community. But we're not just talking about any kind of serving. We're talking about serving like Jesus did.
Let's start with a story. Imagine you're at a fancy dinner party. Everyone's dressed up, having a good time. Suddenly, the host gets up, takes off his fancy jacket, rolls up his sleeves, and starts washing everyone's dirty, smelly feet. Gross, right? But that's exactly what Jesus did. He washed his disciples' feet, showing them that no job was too small or too dirty for him.
Now, I want you to think about a dirty, smelly pair of socks. Imagine that these socks represent the needs of the people around you. Your family, your friends, your neighbors. Just like Jesus washed his disciples' feet, we're called to "wash" these "socks" - to serve others and meet their needs.
We're talking about serving like Jesus did.
Serving starts at home. Help your parents with chores, listen to your siblings when they're upset, support each other. When we serve our families, we're showing them love in action.
But serving doesn't stop at home. We can serve our friends, classmates, and teachers too. Maybe it's helping a friend with homework, listening to a classmate who's having a tough day, or volunteering at school. These acts of service can make a big difference.
And guess what? Our service can even reach people around the world. We can support charities, participate in mission trips, or even just pray for those in need. Our acts of service can bring hope and change to people far away.
But here's the key - we need to serve out of love. Not because we have to, but because we want to. Because we care about the people we're serving. When we serve with love, it's not a chore, it's a joy.
So here's your challenge for this week: Find one way to serve someone in your family, one way to serve someone in your community, and one way to serve someone in the world. And remember, do it with love.
Let's pray:
Lord, help us to serve others like Jesus did. Give us a heart full of love and hands ready to serve. Amen.
1. How did you feel when you served others this week?
2. What challenges did you face while serving, and how did you overcome them?
3. How can you continue to serve others in your daily life?
4. How does serving others reflect the love of Christ?
