Summary: Jesus is above time.

Lord of All Time

June 28, 2020 Morning Service

Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: Jesus is above time.

Focus Passage: John 8:48-59

Supplemental Passage: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)

Introduction: Name some of the things that have changed over time. Some have improved; some have not.

I. Lord of the Past

a. “Before Abraham was born, I am.”

b. Jesus has always been. He wasn’t created. He is God

i. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. (John 1:1-2)

c. He is Lord of the past and Lord of YOUR past

d. Whether or not you “feel” that you are forgiven for your past sins, if you are in Christ Jesus, your past has been cleaned up. You may still face some of the consequences of your past, but your sins are gone!

e. His forgiveness is absolute. He doesn’t get to thinking about how bad you were and decide to hold it against you. That is what the devil tells US to do!

II. Lord of the Present

a. “I Am” is the present tense of the verb “to be.” The very Name of God declares that “He IS!”

b. Jesus is not just some Bible character that lived 2000 years ago. He is alive today! He is active today and He is in the business of reconciliation TODAY! The Bible says that “Today is the day of salvation!” (2 Cor 6:2)

c. The Lord sees your struggles. The Lord knows your heart. The Lord cares about you. The Lord is with you NOW!

III. Lord of the Future

a. Jesus said that He would die and live again. He has done that. Jesus said that He would go away to prepare a place for us, then come and receive us to Himself. Well, He’s gone away from us; now we await His return!

i. "Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. "In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14:1-3)

b. Jesus will also be there as our Advocate at Judgment. He will identify His sheep and the goats and make that division. His sheep will live eternally with Him in Heaven and the goats, or those who have rejected Him, will die eternally away from Him in Hell.

Application/Invitation: Jesus *said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. (John 14:6) The Bible says, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. (Romans 10:9-10)
