I want to open this sermon by asking a question. Is there anyone in this room who has a need in your life? If so then this sermon is for you. Allow me to ask you one more question. Is there anyone in this room that needs the Lord to move upon your behalf? If so this sermon is for you also.
While you are in the core of your problems, while you are in the center your need, if you need someone to help you, and if you need someone that can change your situation, then you need God (Jehovah Jeir) to work on your behave.
And some of you are probably saying, look Pastor I don’t need the Lord you to lift every burden, just the heaviest. Lord I don’t need you to move every mountain, just the highest. Lord you don’t have to move every valley just the lowest one. And some of us just might be as this woman in our lesson who says I don’t need the whole loaf of bread; Lord I just need some crumbs.
That is the situation that we are looking at in this passage today. Jesus is approached by a mother who is in a desperate situation. She needs something in her life. She comes to the Lord and as she’s not asking for much, she is just asking for the crumbs. She is not asking Jesus to move her situation, she just asking Jesus to move in her situation.
In the beginning of this chapter Jesus had been dealing with the Pharisees, the scribes, His disciples and the multitudes letting them know that nothing in and of itself is unclean. His message was simple: what he is telling them is who a man is in his heart.
And can I start off early by telling you, that you don’t have to look hard to find out who a person is all you have to do is look at their heart and that will tell you all you need to know about them.
As soon as that encounter is over, Jesus and His men go over to Tyre and Sidon, to get some rest from some of the pressures of the ministry.
But, we are told in verse 24 that “He could not be hid”. And that seems to always be the case. When Jesus shows up in a person, to a family occasion, a church meeting, a community event, or wherever he is, He simply cannot be hidden. Because when the word gets out that He is in the house, there are people that just simply want to be blessed.
This is why we should do everything in our power to ensure that we generate an atmosphere where God can work. (Why is this so important) it’s import because God doesn’t dwell in an unclean temple.
He could not be hid and where he shows up, people want to be there. Let me just through this in. You are not just coming here because there are some nice people in here, you show because you expect Jesus to shows up in Spirit, and you want to see Jesus attributes in action. People come to church because they want to feel the presence of God. They come here because they want God to move on their behalf.
In this text we see a mother who locates Jesus. She begins to petition the Lord for some assistance. Although she were facing several challenges, she was persists in getting what she came for.
And as I preach this text this morning, I want you to know and understand that there is hope for you. God has the solution to your problems. But know that you’ve got to press your way through and get what the Lord has for you. (Somebody say press your way through). You may have to wade through some things, but keep pressing your way. You may get knocked down along the way but keep pressing. You may have some disappointments along the way, but please keep pressing your way.
This woman came to Jesus is because she was concerned about her daughter. Her child was demon possessed. She needed help; she needed some assistance, and she needed some aid.
Notice as she cried out, there were those who said send her away because she “crieth” after us. Church goers, Christ followers, hymn singers, scripture readers, ok it was the disciples that said send her away. It seems like whenever you’re trying to get closer to the Lord, the devil has some demon agents always trying to keep you divided and send you away.
This woman was crying out to Jesus for the help. Well why was she so frantic? She was frantic because she was heartbroken over the condition of her child, and she was determined to get her child the help that she needed.
