Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Highlight the joy, strength, and peace that come from seeking God, trusting in Him, and dwelling in His presence, as illustrated in Psalm 27.
Good morning, church family. I hope this finds you all in good spirits and ready to delve into the Word of God. Today, we're going to be looking at Psalm 27. It's a powerful psalm that speaks to us about the joy of seeking God, the strength of trusting in Him, and the peace that comes from dwelling in His presence. Billy Graham once said, "Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion - it is a daily process whereby you grow to be more and more like Christ." So let’s discuss how we can actually go about doing this.
First, let's read the Psalm together:

Let's bow our heads in prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for the joy that comes from seeking You, the strength that comes from trusting You, and the peace we find in Your presence. Open our hearts and minds as we delve into Your Word today, and let us draw closer to You through our understanding. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Are you all ready? Let's dive in.
The joy of seeking God is not a fleeting happiness that comes and goes with changing circumstances, but a deep-seated joy that remains constant, regardless of what life throws our way. This joy is rooted in the pursuit of God, in the desire to know Him more, to understand His ways, and to draw closer to Him.
What does it mean to seek God?: We are not merely looking for answers to our problems or seeking relief from our troubles. Rather, we are pursuing a relationship with the Creator of the universe, the One who knows us intimately and loves us unconditionally. This pursuit is not a burdensome task, but a joyful journey. It is like a treasure hunt, where every step brings us closer to the ultimate prize - the presence of God. And in His presence, we find fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11).
Found in the process of discovery: As we delve into His Word, as we spend time in prayer, as we meditate on His truths, we discover more of who God is. We see His love, His grace, His mercy, His power, His wisdom, and so much more. Each new discovery fills us with awe and wonder, and deepens our love for God. This joy of discovery is not limited to our personal devotions. It extends to our corporate worship, our fellowship with other believers, and our service to others. In all these activities, we are seeking God, and in seeking Him, we find joy.
A shared joy: As we seek God together as a church family, we encourage and strengthen each other. We share in each other's discoveries, we rejoice in each other's victories, and we comfort each other in times of struggle. This shared joy binds us together as a community of believers, united in our pursuit of God.
A transformative joy: As we seek God, we are changed. We become more like Christ. We grow in faith, in love, in patience, in kindness, in goodness, in faithfulness, in gentleness, and in self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). This transformation is not a result of our own efforts, but a work of the Holy Spirit in us. And as we see this transformation in ourselves and in others, we are filled with joy.
A sense of purpose and direction: Our lives are no longer aimless or meaningless. Instead, we have a clear goal - to know God and to make Him known. This purpose gives us a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction that nothing else can provide. It gives us a reason to wake up each morning, a motivation to face each day, and a hope for the future.
A sustaining joy: It carries us through the ups and downs of life. It gives us strength in times of weakness, comfort in times of sorrow, and hope in times of despair. It is a joy that does not depend on our circumstances, but on our relationship with God. And because God is unchanging, this joy is unchanging too.
Trusting in God is not a passive act but an active, dynamic, and transformative process that requires us to surrender our fears, anxieties, and uncertainties to Him ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
