Summary: As believers, we are called to live a life that honors God.
As believers, we are called to live a life that honors God, despite our struggles with sin. The Bible teaches us that God's desire is for us to live holy and righteous lives, avoiding temptations and sin.
God's Desire for Our Holiness
- 1 Thessalonians 4:7: "For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life."
- Leviticus 20:26: "You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own."
Avoiding Temptations and Sin
- 1 Corinthians 10:13: "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear."
- James 1:14-15: "But each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death."
Practical Steps to Live a Holy Life
1. Pursue righteousness:2 Timothy 2:22, "Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart."
2. Seek accountability: Surround yourself with people who will encourage and support you in your walk with God.
3. Study God's Word:Learn what the Bible says about living a holy life and avoiding sin.
4. Pray for self-control: Ask God to help you control your desires and emotions.
The Reward of a Holy Life
- 1 Peter 1:13-14: "Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance."
- Matthew 5:8: "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God."
God's desire is for us to live holy and righteous lives, avoiding temptations and sin. By pursuing righteousness, seeking accountability, studying God's Word, and praying for self-control, we can live a life that honors God and reflects His character to the world.
