Living A Godly Life In An Ungodly World
Contributed by James Julian on Sep 23, 2004 (message contributor)
Summary: Our decision to live for Christ and mature in Him was never promised to us as an easy job. There will always be things (and people) in life who will try to ruin our testimony or prevent us from "running the race."
JOHN 8:1-11
LIVING A GODLY LIFE IS TROUBLESOME BECAUSE OF THE WORLD WE LIVE IN (v.1-6)
-world will attack your beliefs
-world will attack you
-because of the world, we need EACH OTHER
(event was not about the woman or her sin... the used her to try and trap JESUS
LIVING A GODLY LIFE IS TIRING BECAUSE OF THE WEIGHT OF SIN (7-9)
-sin is a debilitating weight (HEB. 12)
-sin is a deceiving worm
LIVING A GODLY LIFE IS POSSIBLE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST (10.11)
-sin was not overlooked
-sin was addressed and forgiven
-This event in Jesus’ life was a trap for Jesus. However, Jesus knew this and turned the embarassment and shame that the adulteress felt back into the face of the Pharisees. In essence, Jesus said, "If you want to address sin, let’s go ahead and parade everyone’s sin out in the public."
